pflaming Posted March 27, 2017 Report Posted March 27, 2017 Is the noise level the same between a four speed synchronized tranny and a three speed both from B3B trucks? If not which is louder? Quote
55 Fargo Posted March 27, 2017 Report Posted March 27, 2017 Hmm interesting query, is there some story behind this question? Quote
Young Ed Posted March 28, 2017 Report Posted March 28, 2017 In the syncronized gears the noise should be the same. Also it should be the same in both of them when using the non syncro gears. 1 Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 28, 2017 Report Posted March 28, 2017 (edited) you want noisy....get a tranny with straight cut gears and not helical...helical is a slight parasitic loss but quieter...if you have bad or worn bearing be it roller of needle style such as on the lay shaft ...only new parts will quieten it...or you can do the tried and true used car trick of adding sawdust to the mix... Dodgeb4ya Posted March 28, 2017 Report Posted March 28, 2017 The 3 speed in one of my first dodge trucks (a 1952) was kinda noisy in 1st gear... not bad but I thought kinda a moaning sound. I didn't like the way it sounded but nothing was wrong with it. It worked fine. The trans had about 70,000 on in back in 1972. The NP syncro 4 speeds are not noisy other than the very slight factory whine in 2nd and 3rd. Forth is direct of course and no noise. 1 Quote
