casper50 Posted November 26, 2016 Report Posted November 26, 2016 I bought one of these from Andy as it was listed and mine didn't have anything there. A-365A Under center rear of hood rubber 1942-48 I see no place at the center rear of the hood that this would work. Am I missing something here? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 26, 2016 Report Posted November 26, 2016 that is more specific to the butterfly hoods Quote
casper50 Posted November 26, 2016 Author Report Posted November 26, 2016 I have a butterfly hood on my 47 Quote
DonaldSmith Posted November 26, 2016 Report Posted November 26, 2016 Here's my 47 DeSoto with an alligator hood. The chunk of rubber is to fill in the recess for the butterfly hoods on the Dodges. I have such a chunk of rubber somewhere; now I know where it goes. Quote
casper50 Posted November 26, 2016 Author Report Posted November 26, 2016 I'll take a photo of mine but mine has two raised platforms with bolts in them there. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted November 26, 2016 Report Posted November 26, 2016 Here's another picture of a 1948 chrysler with the original rubber piece... 1 Quote
DrDoctor Posted November 26, 2016 Report Posted November 26, 2016 If I have my facts straight, the ’46-’49 Series 1 Plymouth hoods open as one piece from the front, being hinged from the rear. The Dodges of that same year-span have a fixed piece running from above the grill to just in front of the windshiled, with the hood, if you will, being two pieces, and opening from the fenders being hinged at the center, much like the vehicles of the ‘30’s. That may be a contributor to this issue of correct hood. Thx. Quote
casper50 Posted November 26, 2016 Author Report Posted November 26, 2016 you are correct. my dodge is butterfly type. the part is listed as a 42 to 48 dodge part. Quote
DrDoctor Posted November 26, 2016 Report Posted November 26, 2016 casper50, Thanks for the resonse. I wasn’t familiar with the term “butterfly hood” (altho’ I can now see the applicability of it), nor “aligator hood”. I’ve heard the term “clamshell hood”, but never bothered to inquire as to just what type of hood that was. Anyway, I went out to look at our ’46 Plymouth Club Coupe, and it didn’t have the brackets as in your photos, and now I can see why it wouldln’t/shouldn’t. Again – Thank You. However, sorry I can’t be of any help with you in this case with your rubber piece. Thx. Quote
Dan Hiebert Posted November 27, 2016 Report Posted November 27, 2016 That piece is to support the cowl lacing over that gap on cars with the alligator hood. I don't think it's for the Dodges with the butterfly hoods, regardless of how AB has it listed. Our D24 had the original lacing when we bought it, and the lacing did not span that gap, or have that rubber piece in there. I don't see how it would fit with the hood center hinge brackets there anyway. There are a few other pieces that AB will say is for the Dodges that really aren't. Quote
casper50 Posted November 27, 2016 Author Report Posted November 27, 2016 Dan I agree with you. That's the only place that I could see it would fit and I don't see how with those brackets and bolts there. Quote
Don Coatney Posted November 27, 2016 Report Posted November 27, 2016 I thought I posted this a couple days ago but now I cannot find the posting. This is my D-24 that I believe to be original. Drivers side appears to be missing. Perhaps 2 of these pieces are required?? Quote
casper50 Posted November 27, 2016 Author Report Posted November 27, 2016 I'll try and see if it fits there but the piece that I got from AB is huge. Thanks Don. Quote
casper50 Posted November 30, 2016 Author Report Posted November 30, 2016 The piece that I have is way too large to fit in between the brackets and the cowl in front of the fresh air intake. Quote
