53dodgekustom Posted April 11, 2016 Report Posted April 11, 2016 Has anyone replaced these before? It's the wire spring clips that hold the fork to the release bearing collar. Mine were mangled and not holding everything tight so the bearing was riding on the clutch the whole time. When I tried to bend them I broke one. Roberts and Andy Berbaum said that they don't carry them anymore. I saw a whole bearing and collar assembly on eBay but I can only find the short collar and my car uses the long version. I might buy one and try to remove the clips from it and put it in mine. Maybe if I hear the clip up it won't break when being removed? Any input would be great! Thanks. Here is mine. Quote

desoto1939 Posted April 11, 2016 Report Posted April 11, 2016 According to my 1937-52 TriState Mopar catalog which deals with strictly Mopar parts the clutch release bearing Sleeve spring from 1938-52 are all the same number 671915. This is the catalog that all mopar distributor used. So if you have a parts book for your car and I hope you do. This is the basic book that you should have then you can verify the number in your parts book for your car. It would be in the Clutch section. I would think that 1953 would be the same number. Again this is why collecting the various catalogs on the early mopar cars/trucks is so important. I have this catalog on CD and is also a great reference catalog for all mopar owners. pflaming Posted July 8, 2016 Report Posted July 8, 2016 Found this thread, my bearing spins like a top, but one of those clips is gone. I tried to salvage one from a spare tb but it broke like a week old cookie. So looking, if some one knows a good source, it would be nice to know. Quote
Sharps40 Posted July 9, 2016 Report Posted July 9, 2016 (edited) Simple enough to bend them up from piano wire. Piano wire is strong, inexpensive and you can bend it cold.....makes great springs for guns for years and years....would work just fine for holding the sleeve to the forks. Just measure the diameter and google a supplier or order from Brownells or another gunsmith parts house. Nothing magical about the clips and no need to search high and low for originals when you can make it up in a couple minutes. Edited July 9, 2016 by Sharps40 3 Quote
