beyondrepair Posted April 3, 2016 Report Posted April 3, 2016 Hello all ----- Ive been registered here for a while but havent posted or introduced myself. I have a few 'ol project cars I havent started yet, but have been collecting parts for them for years. I am thinking about getting my '41 Desotos' engine running this summer. I bought this car because the engine was supposed to have been rebuilt, but the owner never started it. I have no other info about the engine. Sooooo, I may be on here asking for help, here and there. I dont understand and frankly a little afraid of the "semi-automatic trans. So much so that I'm actually thinking of finding manual transmissions for them. I guess I'll be asking for some interchange advice, too. I am really stuck on that styling year of 1941 for all the Mopar family. I also have 2 Dodge D-19 coupes. And a 29 Plymouth.....all are very large projects. I do plan on trying the best I can to stick with the early flathead sixes and all early parts. Except for one of the d-19 coupes which was already butchered before I got it, so that will get an early 241 hemi w/ 3x2 carb setup...... Anyway, looking forward to being part of the forum. Hopefully someday I can contribute. Dane 1 Quote
Labrauer Posted April 3, 2016 Report Posted April 3, 2016 Welcome to the forum Dane glad to have you aboard. There are many people here on this forum that have very good information about these old cars and trucks. Looking forward to reading your questions and post Larry Quote

beyondrepair Posted April 3, 2016 Author Report Posted April 3, 2016 Thanks for the welcome, RodFru2u. Yep, I have a long road ahead of me. But Ill have to eat the elephant one bite at a time . Thanks for the advice about the manual, that is gonna have to be about tops on the "gotta get" list.... Quote
48ply1stcar Posted April 3, 2016 Report Posted April 3, 2016 When appropriate if you can include pictures when you have a question or just want to brag. We like pictures, to some it's car porn. HArold Quote
beyondrepair Posted April 3, 2016 Author Report Posted April 3, 2016 I do have one question right away.....does the frames 46-48 Dodge, Desoto, and Chrysler cars interchange with the 41-42's? Quote
beyondrepair Posted April 3, 2016 Author Report Posted April 3, 2016 Yes Harold, will do......I love the pics, too Quote

beyondrepair Posted April 3, 2016 Author Report Posted April 3, 2016 rb1949, Here is a photo that I think most poeple here will mostly be interested in. It's my 41 D-19 project. It needs a frame and floors (among other things) from sitting in the dirt like this. This picture is from around 10 yrs ago and is in a much nicer place waiting for resto..... Quote
beyondrepair Posted April 3, 2016 Author Report Posted April 3, 2016 WOW! I really like this forum layout! its so much easier to post pictures....Since it is so easy Ill post my other D-19 that was butcherized and will become a custom.... Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted April 3, 2016 Report Posted April 3, 2016 that car is afflicted...many unfortunately get started by others in high hope of a custom rod and get in over their head and later pass the hulk to another...here is hoping you can get it properly assembled and finished... Quote
RobertKB Posted April 3, 2016 Report Posted April 3, 2016 Welcome to the forum. Love your '41 Desoto business coupe. The business coupe is my favourite body style from those years. Sounds like you have lots of projects and for me I find it best to do one at a time. However, some can do multiple projects. Your comment about eating an elephant one bite at a time is so true. Never think of the overall project but just one little job at a time. Quote
Dave72dt Posted April 3, 2016 Report Posted April 3, 2016 That "butchered" car looks more interesting to me than the other one does. Any more pics of that one? I may have to take a drive someday to look first hand, at it sin ce you're so close, maybe two hours away. Do you do much metal fabrication? Quote
beyondrepair Posted April 3, 2016 Author Report Posted April 3, 2016 (edited) No I dont have any more photos of the butchered car, its tucked in the back of storage right now. I bought another top from a junkyard 46 to fix the top on this one. And it's gonna get a rear window from a 50 Hudson, as the person who started the chop intended. I think its gonna work out OK...... I do quite a bit of fabrication. I'm probably more of a fabricator than mechanic, but I'm a fast learner. I'm getting into metalshaping more and more as I buy and make more tools. So far everything I have done is with hand tools. Still learning metalshaping which is why these cars have kinda been pushed off until I get better at it. I have an off-topic '59 Ford Fairlane I'm getting together for a driver right now and helping a friend with his hot rod 34 Ford Pickup while im waiting for parts. About 1/2 way done with the frame on the 34.... Edited April 3, 2016 by beyondrepair Quote
