manfromtarsus Posted September 20, 2015 Report Posted September 20, 2015 The driver side check arm (1097 695) of my B-4-B pops loudly when I open the door all the way. The right side door has a only a quiet "click." I've sprayed the check arm ends with lithium grease but it still makes a loud pop. Any suggestions other than to buy ear plugs? Ha! Thanks! Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted September 20, 2015 Report Posted September 20, 2015 check for loose rivet..as maybe the door has been removed and a substitute has been put into place check arm at the A-post...ELSE..if that is tight...the door check rubber inside the door itself has finally spilt and fallen to the bottom of the inside of the door Quote
JBNeal Posted September 20, 2015 Report Posted September 20, 2015 maybe something is bent? here's a few pics to compare 1 Quote
MBF Posted September 20, 2015 Report Posted September 20, 2015 If the one door opens farther than the other it is likely the rubber washer on the inside of the doorstop. Also lube your hinge pins to make sure that they're not wearing unnecessarily. Mike 1 Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted September 20, 2015 Report Posted September 20, 2015 if you view the mechanism and all the interrelated parts within the door...you would quickly see what is amiss..the very spring action of the latch itself can cause this as you are moving in one direct and when the lock springs action hits the ramp and snaps suddenly forward.. TrampSteer Posted September 27, 2015 Report Posted September 27, 2015 I had that problem when I put in a junkyard replacement (I didn't have one at all) on the right door. I immediately took it out, gave it a light sanding at the joints and put on some three-in-one oil. It was a lot quieter right away, and now (two months later) you don't even hear it. Mike 1 Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted September 27, 2015 Report Posted September 27, 2015 (edited) The door check strap mechanism is not really serviceable. You cannot replace the broken parts with out cutting the door open to get at the dual loop portion of the check strap that usually is first to fail from lack of lube. If they don't get lubed they break apart you are kinda screwed. Today I went out to the parts cars and trucks and cut some check straps out with the blue tip. The truck one was broken so I'm showing a 1953 Plymouth wagon check strap..same as the 1948-53 DT except the check strap arm length and curve. The rubber stop, end plate and two curved snap spring plates are the same on the 1949-54 cars and trucks. Edited September 28, 2015 by Dodgeb4ya 2 Quote
Brent B3B Posted January 17, 2017 Report Posted January 17, 2017 today I worked a little on pulling the "strap" on a spare door I have. (going to replace the broken one on another truck before I paint it) I was going to look into making some for a couple other trucks..... any guesses if they are made out of "spring steel" or just a "cold roll" ? 1 Quote
ggdad1951 Posted January 17, 2017 Report Posted January 17, 2017 I'd say they were hardened or made of spring steel. Definitely not plain old wire. Where's Davin's spring making buddy? 1 Quote

"deep" I thought I read somewhere they don't have that set up in "OZ"..... but then again, I also thought I saw a post where Reg repaired his at one time but, I can't seem to dig that one back up. thanks for the input on the harden steel Quote
