wilmacmike Posted August 22, 2015 Report Posted August 22, 2015 Hello there everyone in Mopar land, My 1937 DeSoto Coupe has a 37 Chrysler Royal dash in it. At least that is what I believe it is. It also has the Royal front end (grille and fenders). I'm wondering if anyone has any pictures of the optional clocks that may have been installed into the glove box doors? I would like to know if they were mounted in the center of the door, or off to either side of the door? I have included a few pictures of my dash. I am looking for the clock, a radio control unit, and a vintage heater. Thanks for any information. Mike Quote

wilmacmike Posted August 22, 2015 Author Report Posted August 22, 2015 Thanks guys for the help. Casper50 and Dodgeb4ya: Yep I have been watching e-bay every day for vintage heaters and clocks. The heaters are not to badly priced, but the clocks (reconditioned) are way out of my price range. I will pick something up that I can refurbish to save some money. RalphD25cpe: Thank you for the video. Thats exactly what i'm looking for. The video won't play, but it is sitting right were it needs to be. A very good view of the dash. Thanks again, Mike Quote
Tom Skinner Posted August 23, 2015 Report Posted August 23, 2015 Mike, Yeah, Ebay is going off the Charts price-wise lately. Try D.V.A.P., (Desert Valley Auto Parts) in Arizona. Or go without a clock. Also sometimes you can ask the e-bayer if they will take an offer - instead of some cooked up amount they have posted. I have many times haggled a part down to the buy-able - affordable for me zone, and purchased it from them. Most of the time you have to stay within 15-25% of their price for them to accept an offer. (Example: Clock Lists at $100 - offer $79 w S&H - they go for it). Try to think outside the box, complement them on their listing be respectful in your approach - it works most of the time. These guys need the money as much as you need the part but they won't be taken advantage of either. Some have a Flee Market mentality. Tom Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted August 23, 2015 Report Posted August 23, 2015 Mitchell motor Parts has never been cheap... but they have nice NOS parts. DVAP is $$ too. $250.00 for a 1951-52 plymouth bumper jack!!! Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 23, 2015 Report Posted August 23, 2015 they prey on the people who are not what we say 'proactive' in their parts searches... Quote
desoto1939 Posted August 24, 2015 Report Posted August 24, 2015 A clock is a nice accessory, not a needed item for an antique car. Yes the costs of these early clocks are very expensive. So now you know what ones looks like and snap a picture of the clock and keep it in your files and take it with you to swap meets. During a visit to Hershey about 15 years ago I found a 39 Desoto coupe in one of the sections that had an original clock in the glove box lid. At that time I had never seen one. Tried to negotiate with the owner but did not work out. On my way back to my site I walked in toa vendot and I saw the clock sitting on his table. If I had not seenthe other one I would have passed it and not even given any thought. So I got it for a good price $25. Then went into another vendor three sites up from this vendor and guess what, this guy had the whole glovebox lid with the clock and the plastic insert and the clock was perfect and had the original wires. I bouth this for $100. If you are not in a big hurry than wait but if ou want it NOW then pay the price. A clock does not help with judging it can only hurt if there is something wrong with it. If this is the last thing that you need then go get it since you can see it now. You have to make the decision to buy it or not. Rich HArtung Desoto1939@aol.com Quote
