DonaldSmith Posted January 11, 2016 Report Posted January 11, 2016 "Over yonder" = "Way back when", rather than "Way far away"? Quote

Uncle-Pekka Posted January 15, 2016 Report Posted January 15, 2016 Sirs, We (a band of finns) had a slight argument over the meaning of the below sign; Now, let me ask you, as you're english speaking natives; Would you calmly eat at "Sherrill's" before a date with a lady of your dreams or, say, a job interview? DonaldSmith Posted January 15, 2016 Report Posted January 15, 2016 I am sure that there was no intended connection between eating and getting intestinal gas, in the minds of the owners. (On this side of the pond we call the automotive fuel "gas" rather than "petrol', "essence", "benzina", etc. But I am sure that most travelers, especially the most juvenile, would instantly see a causal relationship between the two. "Hey dad, eat and get gas. Get it?" I have seen similar declarations at establishments that also purveyed fishing bait: "EAT ... GAS ... WORMS." Quote
Don Coatney Posted January 16, 2016 Author Report Posted January 16, 2016 Plymouthy claims to spend all his time in the shop working on cars but it appears that is not always the case. 1 Quote
