Does this exist. :confused:

 

A friend who had been around cars all his life says i should get some for my Fargo 1953 251 flathead.

 

It hadn't run for 34 years until 6 months ago.  With some TLC and little else it is now running nicely once it warms up. :)

 

Now that it is starting to free up again it is starting to blue smoke aftre quick revs (it is sitting on blocks). :mellow:

 

So far I have just put Shell 20W50 in it but will be looking perhaps to Penrite Classic Light 20W60 when I am ready to drive it (i.e. when under load).

 

Smokelss oil could help get the first roadworthy as do not wish to pull down the motor just yet. ;)

Why not do a ring and valve job, and stop the oil burning? Those snake oil treatments are dubious at best.

20 W 60, are you running this engine in ambient temps over 100f, how is the oil pressure?

If you have good oil pressure once this engine is warmed up, then maybe those rings will seat in and this engine will stop smoking, after running it for several 100 miles, even that would be lucky.....good luck anyway...

The answer is "no".  Your engine smokes because oil is getting into the cylinders and getting burnt with the fuel.  There are several reasons how, valves, valve guides, rings.  Normal wear contributes, but its not necessarily a bad thing.  There are treatments that basically thicken the oil so it can't get into the cylinders as easy, but there's no such thing as "smokeless oil".  A cloud of blue smoke is the hallmark of my driving through a neighborhood with our D24, but it runs great.  There are several past threads discussing why and remedies.

5 minutes of light gray smoke tells me the car is still running while its warming up!  Without it how would I know?

$11.00 to $15.00 is a lot of money for a quart of oil that might be used up fairly soon. I would make me seriously consider at least new rings after finding out which cylinder is smoking.
