central52 Posted December 24, 2014 Report Posted December 24, 2014 I tried to open driver's side butterly hood, but it won't open. Looking at it from the other side, the front latch releases, but the rear one is stuck. And it looks a rail fell down, aslo. Tried to knock it over with a long crowbar, no luck. Ed Quote
Don Coatney Posted December 24, 2014 Report Posted December 24, 2014 Once you get it open repair the kinked heater hose. 1 Quote
Young Ed Posted December 24, 2014 Report Posted December 24, 2014 I believe you stated you had dual heaters. My plymouth has those too with the hard lines I got off a dodge. I am not sure if plymouths came with the hard lines or not. Anyway you can get some preformed hoses with bends in them. I just found some bypass hoses that had 2 bends each and cut them to make these. 1 Quote
steveplym Posted December 24, 2014 Report Posted December 24, 2014 I think that lower bar bolts to that lower tab on the latch. I can get you a pic of my '47 if you need it to compare. My latches freeze up too, get some pb blaster or you favorite penetrating oil and soak it a bit. It will give sooner or later. Quote

Ed Put the crowbar back by the sawzall and the 15 lb. sledge and buy yourself a shop manual and a parts book, you'll be much happier and your car will incur less accidental damage.......they advertise em daily on ebay. Familiarize yourself with your project and things will go smoother. Good luck! 2 Quote
central52 Posted December 29, 2014 Author Report Posted December 29, 2014 Gentlemen, I still can't get the right side hood latch to release the hood. Hammer, crowbar, it won't budge. I'm desperate. Ed Quote
Don Coatney Posted December 29, 2014 Report Posted December 29, 2014 Remove the two bolts holding the latch in place and remove the latch. With the hood then open finding the problem should be easier. 1 Quote
_shel_ny Posted December 29, 2014 Report Posted December 29, 2014 By looking at the left side can you figure out how the cable releases the latch, and duplicate that action. Quote
central52 Posted December 30, 2014 Author Report Posted December 30, 2014 ok, will try those suggestions. But, I can't see how I can reach those two bolts from the other side. Unless I crawl into the compartment? Ed Quote
casper50 Posted December 30, 2014 Report Posted December 30, 2014 use all of your extensions and borrow everyone you can find on the block. Quote

casper50 Posted December 30, 2014 Report Posted December 30, 2014 I have about that many as well. Pick them up at garage sales. Quote
Young Ed Posted December 30, 2014 Report Posted December 30, 2014 Call me lazy but I like to stay as far away from work as I possibly can. You call those extensions? Look across the top of this pile I bought last summer. There's an 18" and 24". Quote
casper50 Posted December 30, 2014 Report Posted December 30, 2014 now now boys no comparing lengths. Put back where they come from. lol Quote
central52 Posted December 31, 2014 Author Report Posted December 31, 2014 Yes, an extension will probably do it, and I have a 12 inch one, hope it's long enough. But, if not, off to PepBoys, for a longer one. Ed Quote
Dan Hiebert Posted December 31, 2014 Report Posted December 31, 2014 Remove the two bolts holding the latch in place and remove the latch. With the hood then open finding the problem should be easier. Ditto. I had the exact same problem many years ago. Takes a certain amount of flexibility on your part, and maybe an extension or two, but if the other side of the hood is open its relatively easy. Quote
