L.Vini.M Posted October 12, 2014 Report Posted October 12, 2014 Hi Vini here, I'm new at this so please bear with me. I picked up my 48 B1B last Saturday ... looks awesome and drives very well. I'm restoring the interiors this weekend . Also looking to have it rustproofed , so if someone in the twin cities area can recommend a shop that would be great. Also I have 235/75/15 tires on. I am wondering how wide can I go with new 15" tires??? ... im going for a lowered look without having to lower the suspension. Thank you all! Quote

Nice to see another MN guy on here. There are a few of us. Quote
L.Vini.M Posted October 12, 2014 Author Report Posted October 12, 2014 It is nice to find some locals! I'm looking for a grease-based undercoating. Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted October 12, 2014 Report Posted October 12, 2014 You can get aerosol PB Corrosion Guard at Home Depot. This stuff works really well on things like leaf springs etc. Jeff Quote
deathbound Posted October 12, 2014 Report Posted October 12, 2014 Welcome, is this the same truck that was listed in the classifieds? Just changing the tires to a lower profile will lower the truck slightly, but end up with a bigger space between the tire & fender lip. To lower the rear, it's fairly common & easy to flip the rear axle to the top of the leaf springs....as for the front, not familiar with the front suspension-probably parallel leaf springs also, which I believe would require removing a leaf or 2 to lower it or custom made lowered leaf springs. As long as you're not hauling a lot of weight & just going for looks, should be alright, with a little sacrifice in ride quality. Looks nice & also post it on the truck side......tons of knowledge there. Quote
L.Vini.M Posted October 12, 2014 Author Report Posted October 12, 2014 Yes it is, got last Saturday! Thanks for the info. Quote
Dave72dt Posted October 12, 2014 Report Posted October 12, 2014 Before you start flipping the axle to mount it over the springs, get a tape measure out and check the distance between the top of the springs and the wheel arc. You may find there is not a lot of room left for axle travel and you'll be bottoming out regularly. Quote

JON BENTON Posted October 18, 2014 Report Posted October 18, 2014 Hi All, I was advised to start a new topic, but this is kinda the same route as i'm taking so Vini and myself might ask some of the same questions. One of the questions has already been partly answered, lowering the suspension, I didn't know whether to update running gear, now I have it physically at home, it seems a shame not to keep as much as I can original. I'd like to know where I can get engine parts? I'm presuming most are still obtainable due to the length of time, and numbers produced. The downside is, I live in the UK, I've had mine shipped over, although the worlds a small place now. Regards Jon Quote
