Fernando Mendes Posted October 20, 2014 Author Report Posted October 20, 2014 Originally they were screwed in, repaired ones are normally brazed Last week my mechanic was withdrawing a plastic that was in the place of the tube.I noticed the threads inside the hole.Anyone knows the measure of this? Quote
Fernando Mendes Posted October 21, 2014 Author Report Posted October 21, 2014 It fit a screw 1/2" thread 20G in it. Quote
Fernando Mendes Posted October 22, 2014 Author Report Posted October 22, 2014 Now my mechanic will weld a 1/2" tube in the threaded air pipe connection(1/4" NPT). Quote
Don Coatney Posted October 22, 2014 Report Posted October 22, 2014 Why not get a threaded 1/4" pipe nipple cut to length? Quote
ggdad1951 Posted October 22, 2014 Report Posted October 22, 2014 Fernando, do you have a picture of your application? I've always thought (after Ed informed me) that the cars when into the block like Don's picture and trucks went into the oil pan side? Quote

Most likely that is correct on trucks they do go into the oil pan but if both are 1/4" tapered pipe thread they will work both into the pan and into the block. Quote

Young Ed Posted October 22, 2014 Report Posted October 22, 2014 Fernando, do you have a picture of your application? I've always thought (after Ed informed me) that the cars when into the block like Don's picture and trucks went into the oil pan side? True for pilot house trucks. I believe the older trucks like mine that still have a rear sump like a car also have a dipstick in the block. Quote
Fernando Mendes Posted October 22, 2014 Author Report Posted October 22, 2014 My engine is a IND 251 25" head. Quote
T120 Posted October 22, 2014 Report Posted October 22, 2014 (edited) This is a photo of an IND 251 I have,(25" block),similar to what Don has shown, although not as clean. Length of the tube is6 3/4",(exposed)... Edited October 22, 2014 by Ralph D25cpe 1 Quote
Fernando Mendes Posted October 25, 2014 Author Report Posted October 25, 2014 My engine is a IND 251 25" head. Why my oil level is visible so close of the oil filler hole(without tube dipstick)? I only put 4,32liters+0,4liters=4,72liters(when still without oil filter) After put oil filter weeks ago put more 0,4liters in oil filter. Total=4,72liters+0,4liters=5,12liters. I knew that the correct capacity of 251 engine oil with the oil filter is 5,7 liters.(6US Qts) Quote

Fernando Mendes Posted October 25, 2014 Author Report Posted October 25, 2014 Did the oil stay in the filter?? Relief valve and spring in good condition to prevent draining back into the pan ?? Oil stays in the filter.I measured oil level with a ruler to the top of hole and obtained 2" to 2 1/2".I think it is ok. Quote
Fernando Mendes Posted October 27, 2014 Author Report Posted October 27, 2014 After weld and cut the tube. 1 Quote
Fernando Mendes Posted October 29, 2014 Author Report Posted October 29, 2014 My new dipstick(16,5") was welded on a piece of 608 Mercedes dipstick.Following the measure datas. The tube with 10".Now I will try to solve the oil leaks withdrawing some quantity of oil from the pan.I think I put more quantity of oil in it.That why it is leaking in the floor.
