looks like they sealed it up just tight enough to keep all of the water in.

Pit Find!! been covered for 50 years, great project, needs a little TLC. Where are you going to find another one?

Well, they had to start the process, maybe they won't unwrap it privately but let the public see it happen. Sure doesn't sound like it will be pretty. Eric

I have a feeling that for public safety they have unearthed the vehicle ahead of the crowd...going to be a lot of disappointed folks. The water, hate to see that but in reality it was a below ground vault..I do think I recall it is on a platform.maybe the only way it would be able to come out in one piece...I am upset in seeing pictures before the event...slap in the face to those who have invested in the adventure.

No Dennis..not upset..just disappointed that they were even out there on line somewhere..I have nothing invested in the event...but I think I would be very disappointed to think I was going that far to see an event that has already been played out and end up as a mock show...can't speak for everyopne but for me it would be like I was getting ripped off...

I just looked at those pictures Dennis posted about. I knew they were supposed to open it prior to the Friday noon event, but did not know it would get such photographic coverage. Maybe they should have built a big wall around it or something. Of course, every news agency is out to get "the scoop".....and be first to bring you the news. Curiosity killed the cat, and all that stuff.

If they show it on the news, then that will ruin it for a lot of people. If those photos are just on the HAMB and a few forums for old cars, it won't have so much imact. So, seeing these pics, that leaves the actual un-wrapping to see what is left of the car. And I gather all tickets to that part of the event, at the civic center, have been sold.....at $5, $10 and $25 a hit. I'm sure it's difficult at best to stage an event like this and make everything go just right.

But, we gonna go anyhow and have some old car fun.

I don't think any of our P15-D24 people, including myself, have ever figured out a place to gather and visit. Any thoughts, guys?

Tim,

Really doesn't matter if the car was on a platform or not. According to the water lines on the walls, water was all the way to the top at times. Also said that in the Oklahoma news report on that one link. Even said gas and oil was detected in the water, so...............if gas and oil got out of that bag, water had to have gotten into the bag.

As I mentioned a few months ago, I don't hold much faith in that car even being in any condition for restoring. Wouldn't doubt that it's so rusty that it just breaks as they lift it out, unless it is on a platform.:(

Bright side is, it's one big car show down there for the guys. AND, we get to finally settle who wins the BIG RACE to the "lunch counter", Don or Pete.:D

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it looks like this is a dog and pony show. It looks like they have already opened Valt and it was 1/2 full of water. I just copied this from the H.A.M.B. Forum.

Y'know, this shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. An article in this months Auto Restorer magazine explained that the vault was built using sprayed concrete a couple of days before the Plymouth was buried. Means lots of trapped moisture. If you think of the vault as a small 'basement', it seems foolish for it not to have been waterproofed just like one in a house. For all intents and purposes, the vault is a giant drywell, filled with a Plymouth instead of gravel. Again, no surprise at all. Just my 2 cents' worth.

After reading that article, I'm not surprised really, but I'm sure disappointed. What a waste of a brand new car. But it's still incredibly interesting to see. Gonna be interesting to see ol' Boyd get 'er runnin' though ;)

Looks like the paint is still intact. Doesn;t look like rust has taken over to the roof line. In the second shot, it appears that the trim as still shiney on the rear fender.
