Andydodge Posted July 8, 2014 Report Posted July 8, 2014 Being a mopar car guy I need some help.......lol......I have a set of king pins that on the box are listed for 1934-1941 Plymouth PJ, P1-6 PT 50/57/81/105 & 125.....they appear the same as the car pins except that the spot where the wedge pin area is machined is in a different spot to the car pins......these are in the centre, ie equidistant between top & bottom of the pin whereas the car pins have this area offset to one end....the diameter and length appear the same as a car set I have...the part no's on the box is 830648 with "New No" 933436 below this.......my question is......will these fit the Pilothouse trucks?.....ie, Davin Coles 1953 Fargo?..........thanks, Andy Douglas Quote
pflaming Posted July 8, 2014 Report Posted July 8, 2014 (edited) They may fit, but will they remain in place. I would think they would work their way down and out! I would NOT use them. The kingpins are the foundation of the steering assembly and I doubt that the grease cap at the bottom would hold the pin in. JMO. You may be able to put them in a lathe and put new 'slots' in. Wouldn't think that would hurt anything. Edited July 8, 2014 by pflaming Quote
Andydodge Posted July 8, 2014 Author Report Posted July 8, 2014 Paul, sorry if I confused everyone...lol.....the reason I asked was that these came in a box listing them for 1934-41 Plymouth trucks and I also checked my Andy Bernbaum catalog which lists the one kingpin listing for 1935-1956 Plymouth Trucks which makes me think that they used the same kingpin all the way thru from 1935 to 1956 in the truck line.........these are not going in a car but a 1953 Fargo truck, hopefully.............andyd Quote
Desotodav Posted July 8, 2014 Report Posted July 8, 2014 Thanks Andy. Seems like they may actually work. I'll bring my old ones down and see you tomorrow afternoon. Quote
Desotodav Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 Was good to catch up with you again AndyD. Pity your spare NOS kingpins were too thin for my truck. I will chase some up when I return home in a few days time. Quote
Andydodge Posted July 9, 2014 Author Report Posted July 9, 2014 Yeh, for thos ethat are curious, Davs Fargo uses a kingpin which is about 1/16th thicker than the set I had.......the ones I had were for 1934-1941........exactly the same as davs but thinner..........so much for that idea......lol.........andyd 1 Quote
Conroe Powdercoating Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 so Fargos are beefier built? do they use the same as maybe a 3/4 - 1 ton or bigger? might look those numbers up and see if it jives to what you have Quote

Andydodge Posted July 9, 2014 Author Report Posted July 9, 2014 Dunno about the beefier bit, I would have thought that they are just a mopar truck with a different badge.....we got Dodge, Fargo and Desoto trucks here in Oz, unless you were an expert they all looked very similar........Dav would know........lol... don't ever remember seeing a Plymouth truck here in Oz, tho' they stopped in 1941 anyway didn't they?........andyd. Jerry Roberts Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 Yes , the last Plymouth truck was a 1941 . Then they started up again in the 1970's . Quote
Desotodav Posted July 10, 2014 Report Posted July 10, 2014 I have the truck kingpin measurements written down at home - from memory they were something like 0.871 x 5 23/64 inches (or similar). I will have a NOS set in the morning AndyD, so may stop by your shop before I start my journey home again. Quote

Davin, Are you sure you want to do that I haven't measured mine yet but I'm pretty sure they are the correct ones. Thought for sure I could get them to you before the sandblaster got his work done. Thought for sure I could get them to you before the sandblaster got his work done. Hank (will look tomorrow) Thanks Hank, but I picked up a set today just before leaving the hometown of AndyD - I actually picked up 2 sets today (see attached photo). The chassis was supposed to be at the Sandblaster's yesterday, but I was out of town so will have to chase him up tomorrow. .795" king pin size for the B,C and D models up to Mid serial # B2 trucks. .871" king pin size for all B,C and D models after mid Serial # late B2/B3 and B4 trucks. Bob Thanks for the information Bob. Our trucks here in Oz seemed to have different models to the B1, B2 etc. models that you guys had in USA. The truck which I was chasing the kingpin set for is a 1953 truck, so I suppose that would account for the thicker (0.871") of the 2-sized kingpin sets required. Quote
Andydodge Posted July 11, 2014 Author Report Posted July 11, 2014 Dav did indeed call in today.........showing off his thicker pin to my wife & I ..........eerr.......I might rephrase that..........lol.....better still.........I'll go sit in my corner........lol........but I have learnt something at least ..........regards, andyd 4 Quote
TrampSteer Posted July 11, 2014 Report Posted July 11, 2014 As I am always looking forward to the next thing wrong with mine, were they expensive? Who did you source them from? Roberts? Thanks Mike Thanks Hank, but I picked up a set today ... Quote
Desotodav Posted July 11, 2014 Report Posted July 11, 2014 As I am always looking forward to the next thing wrong with mine, were they expensive? Who did you source them from? Roberts? Thanks Mike It's funny how people here in Oz ask way too much for parts like this which are usually sourced from USA. I had 2 people quote me $270'ish per kingpin kit (that I know they were sourcing from USA ) and they then told me that delivery would be in about 2 weeks. I was fortunate to know a good fella (here in Oz) like Les who happened to have a couple of sets of them among his NOS parts stash and I paid $260 for the two kits. I suspect that having a spare kit might come in handy in the event that I do ever have to change the ones out in the blue 52 truck (or if I need a set for the 55 truck?). I did find that Andy Bernbaum had them listed for $55/pkg, and I saw a couple more sets listed on Ebay USA for around $50. I didn't see them listed on the VPW pages. The issue that I find buying items in USA is that the freight to get them here to Australia often costs more than I paid for the item! 1 Quote
DJ194950 Posted July 12, 2014 Report Posted July 12, 2014 Fairly cheap at the US vs. AUS. prices and you could have them overnight air shipped! The only downside is having to pick up at AUS. customs at the airport. Very reasonable shipping! Sorry about saying that but, (12 +) years ago i was in working in Brisbane and then Sidney and occasionally my US co. did Ship packages up to 20 lb.s overnight air from the US. Never saw the price and DID not want to know either ! Was not always sure it was needed that badly. I'm just a worker! As long as I was not paying for it. DJ Quote
