ggdad1951 Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 Is it pretty much to the floor going that fast? My truck takes quite a bit to run at 65 mph with my 3.54. I'm thinking the 3.73 might be a little better with a standard trans rather than my 3.54. I have to downshift to second every time I take a corner, but It cruises great at 65 mph, so Im happy with that. As far as the video, I might have to get one of those cameras! Here is a quick video Mary took of me/the truck last week with my phone. I almost posted it in my truck's thread, but it works here too! LOL, where's the bed?!?! I remember those days with great joy! I see you r wipers do the same as mine, the drivers sits low on the window, can't seem to get it to sit where I want it to regardless of how many times I rest the position! Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 Thanks guys. I thought you'd enjoy it. I copied the link in the "Share" area of the video on my channel and pasted it into the message Can't say I know the song, Jeff. Maybe I'll search for it. Sounds interesting. I've never edited a video to add music and this was a quick upload late yesterday, so I really didn't have time for it. Merle; Garonteed to put a smile or at least a S$%T eating grin on your face every time you hear it. Goes back to the 70's......you youngsters missed out on some reel gud music you know. Look it up....very catchy lyrics. Pure Prairie League was part of a music genre that spawned the likes of the Eagles.....Poco (my favorites)....and the Outlaws to name a few. In my opinion we all need a theme song.......and this one could be all yours. Jeff btw.....probably no surprise here as I am not a fan of noise.....you get a big thumbs down on that turn signal racket from me. Heck I even switched over to semi fluid grease in my transmission......works a treat on reducing gear box whine. Quote

Yeah, I'm not sure why it does that. I actually got caught in a little rain Monday night and used them for the first time. For what ever reason the driver side wiper randomly goes too far up and too far down when the windshield is wet. It will hit the window trim making an annoying noise. I have to look into it. I also found out the windshield leaks in a few spots that I need to seal up. Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 Sawdust works better Ha Ha! I can't believe I never thought about that..... I dump enough out of my pockets every day to do the job. I will tell you what though that semi fluid grease does the job just fine. The side benefit is that it is much less likely to leak out too. Jeff Quote
Don Coatney Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 As you probably know back in the day many used car lots with less than average scruples would add sawdust to noisy transmissions and differentials. Someone should write a book about repair shops found along route 66 in its hay day. I have heard lots of stories. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 I love the whine sound of the dodge truck spur gear 4 speeds. When I looked at the video and heard the transmission whine it brought back memories of driving my brothers 1950 dodge panel 4 speed. It had that same distinct whine. Bob 2 Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 Well I hope you guy's....especially Merle..... don't think I was being critical. I know it is more pronounced with spur gears.....always would be. I just thought I would share the little trick I employed. I don't know if it would do much with the earlier spur type gearboxes but it sure works fine in mine. I worked for an old Ford dealership back in the early 70's. I worked in new car get ready. The used car lot was located a few miles away. No one in the new car dealership ever wanted to have anything to do with the crew at the used car lot. My boss always said it was best to check for your rings, wallet and watch when the used car manager was around. I do know they used to wipe all the cars down with ATF to enhance the shine. God only knows what some of their repairs were like. Jeff Quote
wallytoo Posted July 4, 2015 Report Posted July 4, 2015 (edited) short youtube video from this spring. yes, with the ipad, it was "sideways", so it is narrow - oh well. if you listen, you can hear the difference between gear shifts and 2-speed shifts. https://youtu.be/JFMPRd3Ml-M Edited July 4, 2015 by wallytoo 2 Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted July 4, 2015 Report Posted July 4, 2015 I couldn't listen to the whole video! Finger nails down the chalk board. 2 Quote
wallytoo Posted July 4, 2015 Report Posted July 4, 2015 yeah, the clutch pedal rubs on the floorboards, so it squeaks when it gets depressed/released. after years of driving it, i don't even hear it anymore. 1 Quote
Geekay Posted July 6, 2015 Report Posted July 6, 2015 Excellent and just what I need to keep up the motivation as mine sits on blocks during the winter. BTW: what is the go with the fluffy dice? They seem to have become an "icon" and necessary adornment for veteran cars/trucks, but I do not know why. I cannot ever remember seeing them in the "olden days"....down under that is. For a while here we had dancing Elvis dolls on a spring too, which I think are okay. Now toy dogs with noddy heads on rear parcel shelves and stick figure families...what next? Quote

Fuzzy dice have no meaning. They are of no use. If you want to hang fuzzies these are much better. Quote
