SpecialK Posted May 23, 2014 Report Posted May 23, 2014 (edited) Hey guys, I´m actually restoring my P15. This time it is the engine. I ordered a gasket kit at rockauto.com but it´s to small. Part number: FS7564C2. My Engine number is:K9896C. Why doesn´t fit it? Can anybody help? Thanx a lot. Thomas Edited May 24, 2014 by GermanP15 Quote
_shel_ny Posted May 23, 2014 Report Posted May 23, 2014 If it is too short, you may have the 25" block. Uses the "Canadian" gasket Quote
Andydodge Posted May 24, 2014 Report Posted May 24, 2014 Thomas..where did you get your Plymouth.....if its ex Canadian it should have the 25" long engine, which is Chrysler/Desoto based and all Canadian Plymouth/Dodge/Desoto & Chryslers used the 25" engine......however if its originally ex USA, then it should use the Plymouth/Dodge based 23" engine.....measure the cylinder head that will give you a pretty good idea......also what is your engine number?..........welcome to the best mopar forum on the web............these guys are a great source of info and friendship....gidday from Australia........andyd Quote
SpecialK Posted May 24, 2014 Author Report Posted May 24, 2014 I think, the car came from Canada. Why is the engine bigger there? Is it also a 218cui or is it also bigger? Where can I get the right gasket kit? thanks guys cheers Quote
bamfordsgarage Posted May 24, 2014 Report Posted May 24, 2014 Here is the gasket set for my 25" Canadian block ('47 Dodge D25, essentially the same as your engine). This one came from NAPA, but the Fel-Pro number should help you source it elsewhere. Good luck! Quote
Andydodge Posted May 25, 2014 Report Posted May 25, 2014 Thomas......the longer, 25" engine was used as it was apparently a decision by mother mopar that it was easier and more cost effective to offer just one engine for the 4 brands of Chrysler Corporation cars being sold in Canada.......all use the 3 & 7/16th bore with different strokes to get 217.8, 228.8 or 250 cubic inches......at least the Canadians had it all pretty standardised.....lol....here in Oz we had BOTH length engines used in all 4 brands, depending on what gearbox was used, ie, standard 3 speed, overdrive or automatic .........anyway measure your head length and that will tell you what to order..regards, andyd Quote
greg g Posted May 25, 2014 Report Posted May 25, 2014 Would the K in the engine number indicate the car was assembled at the Kew assembly facility in England? If the engine is 25 inch when ordering engine parts, specify Chrysler or De Soto. When you get to dyistiributer paruts it is always best to take the number off the dist with you for reference. The dist number should stajrt with 1at or similar with some digits following. This number is on a tag rivited ti the dist body. Quote
SpecialK Posted May 25, 2014 Author Report Posted May 25, 2014 (edited) I just measured the cylinder head: 64.5 mm = 25.39 " So it is a 25" engine?how do I find out the cubic capacity? There is a 3 speed manual in the car. Edited May 25, 2014 by GermanP15 Quote
Don Coatney Posted May 25, 2014 Report Posted May 25, 2014 The measurement you need is the overall length of the head in inches as pictured. Also post the numbers on the side of the engine block as pictured for positive identification. Quote
SpecialK Posted May 25, 2014 Author Report Posted May 25, 2014 (edited) I think the measurement is the same. The whole length of the head.here the engine number: Edited May 29, 2014 by GermanP15 Quote
Don Coatney Posted May 25, 2014 Report Posted May 25, 2014 You do have a long block engine same as American Desoto-Chrysler or Canadian engine. I cannot interpret your engine number but perhaps someone here will be able to do so. Quote
Eneto-55 Posted May 25, 2014 Report Posted May 25, 2014 The engine number does not look like a factory stamp, as the numbers are a bit mis-aligned. Possibly a rebuild #? Quote
SpecialK Posted May 31, 2014 Author Report Posted May 31, 2014 specify the numbers on the block any information? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 31, 2014 Report Posted May 31, 2014 the 57 Dodge was known as the K series but I do not know if the engine was identified with the letter K Quote
SpecialK Posted May 31, 2014 Author Report Posted May 31, 2014 I hope not my engine is from 1957!! Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 31, 2014 Report Posted May 31, 2014 from all the info I can find..K was 57 year....if the engine was a KEW then the letters KEW would be on the engine as I understand it by reading what I could find on the subject.. Quote
_shel_ny Posted May 31, 2014 Report Posted May 31, 2014 the 57 Dodge was known as the K series but I do not know if the engine was identified with the letter K Tim, you may be on to it. USA numbering for the Dodge engine changed in '57, per chance Canada may have done the same. Perhaps our Canadian data expert will weigh in on that. Quote
