dodge59 Posted October 9, 2014 Author Report Posted October 9, 2014 Great news on the windshield mopar.. hope they can make it. I'd like to have one someday too. Quote
Mopar Posted October 11, 2014 Report Posted October 11, 2014 I was able to make contact with the glass guy today. I will have to send him my old windshield for him to make a template from. I will have to ship it to Spokane WA and then up to Canada from there. It will cost $600 to make the template since he has not make one for a 54 royal convertible. Then $1200 to make the windshield. I'm half way thinking of getting two made up since I would not have to pay him to make up another template. Then I would have a spare or one for someone else if they needed it. He told me there is a glass company that makes curved windshields in Detroit area for prototype cars but they are very busy it if they would make the windshield it would probably it would probably be several years. He is running about 6-9 months behind schedule himself. He told me some of the cars he has made windshields for have sold for $200,000 to $300,000. Quote

dodge59 Posted October 11, 2014 Author Report Posted October 11, 2014 update on my brakes no luck yet.. after installing the new brake hoses and setting the heel and toe on the shoes .. it still has some dragging yet. .. backing up is fine .. going forward is the problem.. I took it out around the block and noticed once the shoes have a little heat in them the dragging goes away. Oh Yeah forgot to say when I set the heeel and toe up, I noticed there was brake fluid seaping out of the shoes in a few places.. There is nothing leaking from wheel cyls or lines so.......... it appears the shoes are saturated with fluid and that causes the shoes to drag until they heat up and disperse that fluid on the shoes . that is my guess. what do you guys think.. if it does not disapate it's time for front shoes. buy yeah after driving around the block a few times they don't drag anymore just alittle pulling to one side . I think I need to Re -bleed all 4 brakes again also. that may help the pulling to one side or other. I'm just wondering is there is some debris in the master cyl that is causing some of these issues . with the relases of the shoes . Quote
ChrisRice Posted October 11, 2014 Report Posted October 11, 2014 If you're shoes have brake fluid on them then the cylinders are leaking. Or it is leaking on the line in the back of the cylinder and down onto the shoes. The shoes should be dry and free of fluid in order to be effective. The fluid on the shoes decreases the friction that is used to stop the car. As far as the dragging, it sounds like the need to be re-adjusted. And as far as pulling one side to the other, the re-adjustment may help with that as well. Quote

I did not replace the shoes. which I think that is some of the problem change much. I bled all the cyls today with my buddy pumping and working the pedal. that bleeding seemed to of help a little . One thing I notice today was one of the left front bleeders did not bleed right ........... it did not shoot a stream of fluid out when I cracked open the bleeder screw.. I have to take that aparts and see why it does not shoot a nice stream of fluid out . might be the problem. I noticed that a wet shoe will always have a tendency to make that brake grab when applied. . Edited October 12, 2014 by dodge59 Quote
pflaming Posted October 12, 2014 Report Posted October 12, 2014 Left front bleeder valve: " . . . did not shoot a stream. . . " May be a prostrate problem. My front valve is somewhat like that also. LOL 1 Quote
Mopar Posted October 13, 2014 Report Posted October 13, 2014 I had the same problems with my prostate. This last winter I pushed my doctor to run some more tests and found out I had prostate cancer. Had it removed and none of that problem any more. Don't mess around with it. Dodge59- check out my dodge royal facebook page. I felt like I made some progress this week. As far as your brakes go, I would recommend replacing the shoes. They tend to get spongy when they have soaked up brake fluid. I had to replace mine for that reason. I also re built my master cyl and then spent a whole day trying to bleed the brakes. I still couldn't get the peddle to hold good pressure so cleaned up the old parts and the brakes worked fine. not sure what was bad with the new parts, they looked fine. 1 Quote
