50 coupe Posted August 15, 2014 Report Posted August 15, 2014 Thanks for your post and pics. This has given me more confidence and perspective on tackling the 'frame off' task in the future. Quote
fstfish66 Posted August 19, 2014 Report Posted August 19, 2014 I'm doing the front next. what are u gonna do to the front ? disc s and or rack and pinion ?? Quote
casper50 Posted August 19, 2014 Author Report Posted August 19, 2014 stock with disc's. Waiting on some rubber seals for the front suspension to put it all back together. Bought a set and it was missing some and had extra of others. Still waiting for the ones I need. Quote
Dan Hiebert Posted August 19, 2014 Report Posted August 19, 2014 I'm pretty sure it's been replaced. It has two spots of that "junkyard yellow" paint on it. Not that it matters, as you're doing a thorough job, but I'll wager those are factory inspection marks, mine still has some faint traces, too. Quote
casper50 Posted August 19, 2014 Author Report Posted August 19, 2014 I just priced everything needed for the Scarebird front disc conversion. Everything brand new comes to $581 to my door. I don't think that's a bad price at all. Going to place my order for the kit tomorrow. Quote
50desotocoupe Posted August 19, 2014 Report Posted August 19, 2014 That sounds about right. I have about $1500 in both my front and rear discs. Quote
casper50 Posted September 19, 2014 Author Report Posted September 19, 2014 A little more progress. New Moog springs and tie rod ends. Going with Scarebird front discs. I'd like to give some credit to Rich Hartung for the loan of his Miller tools to put the A-arms back together. Made it go much smoother and quicker. Rich is offering a great service loaning these tools out. 4 Quote
casper50 Posted October 2, 2014 Author Report Posted October 2, 2014 Disc brakes are mounted on the front. Used a Scarebird kit. Only hiccup was that I had to grind a very small bit on the calipers where they slide into the bracket slots. Really happy with it so far. Quote
40plyrod Posted October 2, 2014 Report Posted October 2, 2014 Don't know how I missed this thread...nice work! Quote
casper50 Posted October 2, 2014 Author Report Posted October 2, 2014 tks 40plyrod. Slow going as I have to save the cash for whatever step comes next. 1 Quote

casper50 Posted October 23, 2014 Author Report Posted October 23, 2014 Got a nice surprise today that saved me $40. While removing the headliner and old factory insulation I found the original build card. Now to decipher it. 1 Quote
casper50 Posted November 27, 2014 Author Report Posted November 27, 2014 A little more finished. Relocated the shocks. Bought the brackets but wasn't real happy with what I received for the money spent. Added the metal that fits flat against the frame. All the kit came with was the two parts that bolt to the top of the shock. Oh well, live and learn. 1 Quote
casper50 Posted November 28, 2014 Author Report Posted November 28, 2014 Took the waterpump off today dreading every turn of the rachet. Hooray my lucky day. Water tube looks new. Quote

casper50 Posted December 5, 2014 Author Report Posted December 5, 2014 (edited) Disassembled the engine tonight to see what's needed. Nothing gave me any problems. I always get a few nuts/bolts that don't want to come out or something but everything went very smooth. I'm kind of in mild shock. Some good news some bad. No sludge in the oil pan, no ridges or anything in the cylinders. A few main and rod bearings are slightly scored. None that I can see on the crank. Edited December 5, 2014 by casper50 Quote
DJ194950 Posted December 5, 2014 Report Posted December 5, 2014 What did your oil look like when you drained the pan?? Almost appears to have some water contamination in whats still in the pan and valve lifter area. Hopes it's just from sitting too long! DJ Quote
