rkldesign Posted September 11, 2013 Report Posted September 11, 2013 This is your chance to share with me and all of us what was your best book or reference manual for your flat head rebuild project. Thanks, Richard 1 Quote
Jeff Balazs Posted September 11, 2013 Report Posted September 11, 2013 Richard; Give Gary at Roberts Motor parts a call. He probably has the manuals you need. There are a lot of items that are specific to your model and don't crossover to the rest of the trucks. You should get a parts manual as well as the repair manual. You are going to have to get extra familiar with the details of your model Jeff Quote
rkldesign Posted September 12, 2013 Author Report Posted September 12, 2013 Thanks Jeff, I have a service manual and I will talk with Gary about a parts manual. I appreciate your input. Richard Quote

rkldesign Posted September 18, 2013 Author Report Posted September 18, 2013 Ok guys thanks for the input. I have some on order and should arrive soon. Body gets lifted off chassis next week. Will start to post pics of the lift off and work on chassis. I am hopeful that the engine and all will start and function. Richard 1 Quote
JBNeal Posted September 19, 2013 Report Posted September 19, 2013 the flathead engines are simple by design, hence their inherit reliability vs. overhead cam engines. The shop manual does give specifications & procedures on rebuilds / repair of the powertrain, electrical, body, etc. But sometimes there is information in between the lines or left out altogether. Examples are the window riser adjustments, steering gearbox dust seal lubrication access hole, B-3 B-4 turn signal conversion & installation, horn rebuild dos & don'ts...that's when a build thread on this forum comes in handy, folks will chime in with all kinds of help (some of it more useful than others) Quote
rkldesign Posted September 25, 2013 Author Report Posted September 25, 2013 Got a parts manual and it is great! Has lots of exploded views of all the Route van components and that is godsend. I read every night before I fall asleep. Is that weird or what? Richard Quote
ggdad1951 Posted September 25, 2013 Report Posted September 25, 2013 nah...welcome to the brotherhood! now when you start having DODGE dreams.... Quote

Mark D Posted September 25, 2013 Report Posted September 25, 2013 My parts manual gave me a good idea of how everything went together. But there was an article that I got from somewhere on the net that gave me great insight as to how the engine went together. The article was a four part series from the 2001 Dec - April issues of Auto Restorer magazine. I just uploaded it to the reference files for future use. Quote
HanksB3B Posted September 26, 2013 Report Posted September 26, 2013 Why not attach it here and help us all out ? Hank Quote

Mark D Posted September 26, 2013 Report Posted September 26, 2013 Sorry gents, but I only uploaded the doc yesterday and the site admin had to approve it before I could provide its location. The PDF file Can be found under the "resources" tab, then select "downloads", then select "instruction manuals & templates" and click on the file named: "flathead 6 engine rebuild". Enjoy! - Mark Quote

Mark D Posted July 18, 2014 Report Posted July 18, 2014 Just curious what ever happened with the file that I uploaded? GTK did you confirm copyright issues? 1 Quote
