My Chrysler needed new u-joints.  I has the cross type with wings to bolt the cap to the transmission/rear yoke.  After I found out that the going rate was $100 each, I decided there must be a better/cheaper way to do it.  After I searched for quite a while, I gave up and decided to pay the money.  That's when I found out that there are no more of them to be had.  So I went back to my update project.  This is what I came up with:

If there is any interest, I can supply part numbers.

Moose do you have a pic of your original U joint? My truck uses an odd one that has serations on the cabs and then bolt on plates to hold them.

Like this?

Nope guess mine is yet another oddball version. I thought I had a picture of one but can't locate it at the moment.

Sure thing, here you go.

The U-joint is Moog part #315G  and is for a 80 6 cylinder mopar.

The straps are Spicer 3-70-28X Bearing Strap kit.

The straps are the right diameter for the joint caps, but they are too wide and would have pushed the c-clips out, so they needed a little grinding to make it right.  The holes on the straps are also a little bit too wide for the studs and needed to be tweaked a little.  That makes it sound like its going to be an iffy fit, but the c-clip lines up nicely inside the driveshaft where the caps are pressed in and everything came out with no slop and I felt no vibration at all on a test drive up to about 70mph.

Let me know if you need more elaborate instructions, and/or send me an email.

Hope this works for you too!

This is exactly the info I need. Will give it a try.

Appreciate it.

Many thanks  :)

Ed, those are Cleveland u joints. Pretty hard to find.

Yes they are hard to come by.There are 2 sizes of them too. Six and eight cylinder Chryslers use them and the eights use a larger cleveland joint.
