Bradley S. Posted June 9, 2013 Report Posted June 9, 2013 Built these this weekend. I need to decide what color to stain them. I used cedar 2 x 6s. I think they looks nice. Now I can haul some hogs to market. Brad 2 Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted June 9, 2013 Report Posted June 9, 2013 must be a special market for short legged pigs..... is the ole creosote type (I know it is outlawed but a replacement may be available) to put these in the black finish of yesteryear..would look quite at home I think... Quote
1952B3b23 Posted June 10, 2013 Report Posted June 10, 2013 I agree I think the black finish would look great on those. Would look good with the red cab. -Chris Quote
ggdad1951 Posted June 10, 2013 Report Posted June 10, 2013 personally the wood worker in me would like to see them a med/light brown stain and lacquer. Otherwise straight up black Quote
Don Coatney Posted June 10, 2013 Report Posted June 10, 2013 I like the unfinished natural look. Let them grey with age like the rest of us. Quote
48Dodger Posted June 10, 2013 Report Posted June 10, 2013 A dark redish stain like Sierra or Redwood....... 48D Quote
Bradley S. Posted June 11, 2013 Author Report Posted June 11, 2013 Thanks for all the great suggestions. I am leaning towards a semi-transparent natural cedar stain only. I like Don's philosophy! Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted June 11, 2013 Report Posted June 11, 2013 (edited) I did some initation barn wood effect on some wood panels on a project long back...they look like aged wood and with the polyurethane will look that way for a long time to come...very quick and easy and cost effective also might I add... hazegry Posted June 12, 2013 Report Posted June 12, 2013 you guys got to stop doing this I love my modified truck but seeing these makes me want to build a stock farm truck. This reminds me of my grandpa thanks for stirring up the memories. Quote
MBF Posted June 12, 2013 Report Posted June 12, 2013 (edited) Looks really good. I took the fir stringers that were under the flatbed body I bought for my 2.5 ton and made a set of 6" sideboards out of them. I painted them to match the body because they hade been painted many times in the past, but I would have preferred a natual type of finish. I'll do something more when I get back on my feet.
