bach4660 Posted May 9, 2013 Report Posted May 9, 2013 is the second photo a decal that will go over the stamped steel plate? Quote
Dan Babb Posted May 9, 2013 Report Posted May 9, 2013 Looks good. Tell us more about that second image. I have my original data plate...but the last owner painted over it. Been hesitant to try to remove the paint because I don't want to take off the paint underneather. I guess I have nothing to lose and should try a paint remover. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 9, 2013 Report Posted May 9, 2013 in some places they inspect carefully for any signs of data plate removal even if by owner for restoring the serial number plate itself..there are nightmare stories out there of confiscated cars.. Quote

bach4660 Posted May 11, 2013 Report Posted May 11, 2013 looks really good. I'm with you Dan, the PO sprayed the cab including the plate it is now a high gloss blue, and completely unreadable. I was thinking of maybe paint remover, or maybe a 600 grit sand, not really sure what to do. Hoping to get it on the road in the next few weeks and I know you have to have the vin read for emissions testing, which will another problem in itself. Quote
TodFitch Posted May 11, 2013 Report Posted May 11, 2013 . . . and I know you have to have the vin read for emissions testing, which will another problem in itself. Off topic, but where do you live that you need emissions testing for a vehicle that old? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 11, 2013 Report Posted May 11, 2013 I recently heard another person making comment that they must go for emissions testing also...it was considered just a formal check mark on a paper and a money maker for the state... Quote

Vancouver. No it is once a year, and they measure the tailpipe, a worker drives on the rollers, then stops for specified times. The problem I have is they drive, and so far only one guy who has retired knows how to drive column. The last time I was there they did the driving test in second gear. But I keep waiting as I believe this may finally be ending this december. pita right now Quote
Don Coatney Posted May 12, 2013 Report Posted May 12, 2013 I wonder what tailpipe measurement has to do with the test? Quote
48Dodger Posted May 13, 2013 Report Posted May 13, 2013 They stick a sensor up the tailpipe and measure the HC's that make it out (unburned gas)....not measure the the tailpipe as in "is it 50 x 2" or 46"x 1.5 ?"..lol. 48D Quote
