ggdad1951 Posted May 1, 2013 Report Posted May 1, 2013 Ok, I think there are few minds here...let's see what you think. My 2000 GMC Sonoma requires me (w/in the last few days suddenly) to turn the ignition key two times to start. If I just leave it cranking the first time it won't fire up. If I turn the key for a second and the reset and try a second time, it fires right up. Once running drives and accerlates normally. Thoughts? Quote
Young Ed Posted May 1, 2013 Report Posted May 1, 2013 Try just turning the key to on but not cranking it for 10 seconds or so. Then try and start. If it starts normally then its a sign of a fuel pump issue. Quote
ggdad1951 Posted May 2, 2013 Author Report Posted May 2, 2013 Yep that seems to work/be the issue.....great.... Quote
Young Ed Posted May 2, 2013 Report Posted May 2, 2013 Well you can fix that fuel gauge issue now.... On my truck I found its easier to pull the box than to drop the gas tank. Quote
ggdad1951 Posted May 2, 2013 Author Report Posted May 2, 2013 seriosly? pull the BOX....for cripes sake.... Quote
Young Ed Posted May 2, 2013 Report Posted May 2, 2013 Your GMC might be different but thats what I found. The box on my dakota is 8 bolts plus wiring for the tailights and unclipping the tailgate. Otherwise you are underneath fighting with rusty bolts heat shields etc. Just make sure your pump isn't under the cab..... Quote
ggdad1951 Posted May 2, 2013 Author Report Posted May 2, 2013 oh I know the pump is inteh tank, along with the sending unit.....sigh...hopefully I won't have a complete failure in the next few weeks.... Quote
48Dodger Posted May 2, 2013 Report Posted May 2, 2013 Seriously yes....PULL THE BOX.....newer trucks are for the most part set up to make it easy. And dropping a tank is always a PITA....don't care if its plastic or not. And spending less time on your back is always better in my book. 48D Quote
ggdad1951 Posted May 3, 2013 Author Report Posted May 3, 2013 Here's another idea... interesting...don't know if I'd do that for what I hope to be a once shot fix....YIKES! Makes me thing of my B3D! Quote

48Dodger Posted May 3, 2013 Report Posted May 3, 2013 (edited) Use an engine hoist and straps to pull it....picece O' cake. Couple a rubber 1/4 " washers.....why not? Couldn't hurt. 48D P.S. Cutting a "hatch"? Laaazzzy! lol.....might compromise the floor with a heavy load, etc....otherwise, could work. Edited May 3, 2013 by 48dodger Quote
ggdad1951 Posted May 12, 2013 Author Report Posted May 12, 2013 wow, what a 6 hour ordeal.....started to drop the tank, and yah, taking the bed off was easier....but THANKS GM...way to ground the feaking fuel pump thru the tail lights...scratched our heads over that for over an hour.....and only broke off ONE bed bolt....got a bit of rust under that nice looking truck.... Young Ed Posted May 12, 2013 Report Posted May 12, 2013 So does that mean once you put it back together it worked? Quote
ggdad1951 Posted May 12, 2013 Author Report Posted May 12, 2013 So does that mean once you put it back together it worked? once we realized it grounds thru the taillights....yes....I even have acceleration again! Quote
48Dodger Posted May 13, 2013 Report Posted May 13, 2013 Sa-weet!.....did you change the ground location? 48D Quote
ggdad1951 Posted May 14, 2013 Author Report Posted May 14, 2013 (edited) Sa-weet!.....did you change the ground location? 48D no was afraid that there might be some coomputer issue if we did and I'd get the permanent "check engine" light Edited May 14, 2013 by ggdad1951 Quote
plymouthcranbrook Posted May 20, 2013 Report Posted May 20, 2013 Here's another idea... I did this on a 1983 Chevy Cavalier station Wagon. Worked like a charm Quote
