Hey all, unfortunately I have my 47 Chrysler Club Coupe for sale. So far in 36 hours 2 interested parties, but no viewing of the car or offers.

I have my 47 advertised only locally, at a fairly high price, people like to bargain/dicker here, and need some leeway for that reason.

This car is in decent form, but still needs the following, headliner and wind-lace  new windshield rubber, bumpers need replating, or donor bumpers, rocker trim needs polishing and repair or replacement, pot metal including grille is only driver quality. Steering wheel has cracks, as does glove box door, and radio needs some repair, all else works electrically. It needs a few mechanical items nothing serious to my knowledge.

The negatives, interior cloth and dash and window garnish colors are not "Royal" period correct. This car also has a dry clutch, and 3 spd trans, no fluid coupler, with either 3 spd or M5 trans. The paint is in good shape, but i shot it on, and got some good runs, 1st paint job, and some things went wrong, but it looks pretty good for the most part.

So , this is what I got to work with, but want to be honest with myself too.

what the NADA book says for around here for a 47 royal club coupe.

Base Price original   $1,651, low retail  $5,600, average retail $8,950, high retail $13,100

Type up a list of whats in good condition, and what needs work.  And let them drive it.

You've provided a great deal of straightforward information.  I don't know what your ad is like but also I appreciate a lot of good pictures.  If I was selling, I'd take a front and back; front and back 3/4; both side views; engine from both sides; trunk and interior dash, seats, doors and headliner (13+).

This might seem excessive, or difficult, depending on the type of ad being posted but I believe it helps to convince buyers, especially those from a distance, to call.

Also, along with the written information, I'd be fully confident that the marketplace is "informed".  If I had no bites, I figure my asking price was too high or, frankly, the current marketplace was too depressed given my love of the car.  :)

Good luck with your sale!

My Ad is not super specific, as my thread, i do have plenty of pics, so will try and sell, but it may not sell. I am willing to negotiate, but I am not going to wholesale her out quick either, times are tough, but will "drydock" this old boat, if i have too...

Fred;

If you want someone here to tell you how much to sell your car for you are barking up the wrong tree. You and only you will have to make that decision. How much do you want to sell it?

Nope don't need a asking price or selling price, our market could be much different than many Members market areas.

Just want to be fair minded and reasonable with regard to sale price expectation.

No big worries, not much activity on my 2 ads, this really is Chebby/Furd Hotrod Country.

I will post if and when it does sell........

You could probably look thru the online Hemmings Motor News to see if any similar vehicles are being offered, and

see what others are trying to get.  That may or may not be of any help to your cause..............

Fred,

An adage in the used car business is "there's a seat for every a$$hole".  Get what makes you satisfied or park it in Ed's front yard where the market may be stronger.  I guess the determining factor will be how much of a hurry you're in to sell it but I'm sure nobody's more sorry to see it go than you.

May we all assume you'll still haunt these pages?  I hope so.

It's worth whatever someone is willing to pay. Start high and be willing to negotiate.

On another note, you have a lot of blood, sweat, and tears invested in the car beside money. I know you do not want to sell so if possible, dock the old girl as you suggested and wait for better times. Selling should definitely be a last resort.

NEVER use NADA to determine the value of a classic car...for that fact NEVER use it for ANY car. NADA is a SCAM perpetrated by the NATIONAL AUTOMOTIVE DEALER ASSOCIATION (NADA) to screw you out of the value of your trade in. Use Kelly Blue Book.(kbb.com) or EDMUNDS to find the value of a modern car 1996 and up.

For classic cars you need to use the guide that the insurance industry uses and the would be VMR International price guides. Now for classic cars( pre 1984) that would be VMR's CLASSIC CAR REVEIW( http://collectorcarmarket.com/)

Thanx everyone for the replies and advice. I have some activity  but not line-up of buyers. 2 promising potential buyers, are both over a 1000 miles away.

I have used a Canadian and US Vintage car pricing guide, and I am asking in the right amounts, leaving room for bargaining.

I did make some mistakes while fixing this old car up, which has resulted in a lower value, the car is a "Royal", being this it should have,

-woodgrain dash and window garnish

-no stainless trim on door panels

-certain type grey colored grey type material for seats and door panels

That was my interior mistakes, dash is painted solid blue as well as window garnish, somewhat like a Windsor model would be.

Car has no fluid drive and 3 spd trans or optional M5 semi-auto trans.

Paint is not a factory color.

All of this has lowered the price value of this car, although it's an okay driver car, it certainly is not a survivor or a very authentic resto.

If my car had all the correct items, it would easily be worth a few grand more, these cars are on the rare side, especially in Canada. I have never seen 1 on the road in my area, and have only seen 2 parts cars, never have seen a biz coupe, and maybe 2 converts....thanx all

You really need to point out the scarcity of cars like yours especially the coupe body style.  Not many left, the car will probably a one of no matter where it goes, even in a line of Chryslers.  The Sales leaders were always the 4 door sedans.  Even if it not correct, is should be easy for collector to make it right if they feel they need to.

Fred;

I am not sure how serious you are about selling nor what time frame you need but have you listed your car for sale in this forums car for sale area?

Hi Don, have not advertised on this forum as of yet, really am trying to sell locally at this point, well in the region, say Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta, with a population base of about 5.5 million, so a smaller market

Yes Greg they really are,  kinda rare, not many around, and production was very low, especially in Canada, our collector retail price lists then about 25% higher in price than in the USA.

Hi all, sadly but also gladly have tentatively sold my 47 today, to a another great Mopar Gent. The potential new owner, is a lover of old Mopar in a stock form, so I am very confident it is going to good hands.

I have learned a lot on this forum, and have certainly enjoyed my time on here, and hope to continue, while I fix up the old Fargo.

I wish all the best, and would like to say a special thanx to some Members, 40Plymouth, Tim Adams, Robertkb,Greg G, Don Coatney, Lou Earle ,Shelbizcoupe, Dodgeb4ya, Normscoupe,Norm Carter, Joel Okie, and all the rest of you fine folks...........Fred

Fred, for me it is a sad day but as you mentioned you are kinda glad so that is some comfort. I hate to see the old girl move on but hopefully the new owner will become a member of this forum and we will still be able to see the Chrysler coupe! Please stay on the forum and update us regarding your Fargo!

Thanx Rob, this as crazy as it sounds is a bit difficult, we do get sentimental attachments to our toys.

Tonight my not quite 11 YO son is having a real tough time with this, and was quite upset, had a heck of a time getting Him to go to sleep.

He was just a little wee Guy when I brought the car home to begin fixing here back up, I bought her in 1988, and started fixin her up in 2005.

Hard times in the finance department, make this deal necessary, no other reason.

Some pics, of My Son and Daughter with the old heap....

I would make a bet that your son owns a 40's Mopar in a few years... You've planted the seed in him, it will no doubt grow into a passion, as it did with the rest of us crazy old car lovers. Great pictures by the way.
