Hello all,

New member from Shippensburg, PA. I have been a member on the POC forums for a couple of years now and have been messing with old Mopars for the past 16 years. I'm currently trying to complete the restoration I started with my grandfather all those years ago. See pictures below...

Nice car. Welcome. Jump right in and enjoy.

Lots of good info already in place in the information portion of the

forum, plus you can search for previous threads by topic to see if

any questions have already been answered in days gone by.

How did you finesse the top bars, joints, etc. I am facing that challenge on my '53 so any tips will be appreciated. Does your top have a mechanical raise/lower drive or do you do that manually, and finally will you go vinyl or canvas on the top and why?

As you can tell, you are WELCOME on this forum and already a valuable addition. Welcome aboard.

Vert is lookin' good. It's sure to be a head turner once done.

As a side note... I was driving to Shippensburg, PA the day Sandy hit. I was half way there when I got a call to turn around and go home. Training had been canceled due to the fact that most students couldn't get there because the airports were shut down. I believe I'm scheduled to be out there agian in February though.

Thank you all for the kind words. This car is very much a project so I will be needing lots of information and guidance. The first mountain to conquer will be fixing the identification issues with the car, but that can be saved for a different thread.

I very well may have an extra set in storage but the chances that I will be able to find them before spring are slim. If I come across them I'll let you know...

Considering that my grandfather first disassembled the car in 1972 which was 14 years before I was born, I'm not sure I can help you with removing the top bars, etc. :( This car has a vacuum system to raise and lower the top which will get used if I can ever figure out how the lines are supposed to be run. Since I believe it to be original, I will likely be going with canvas for the top material unless I am informed otherwise.

Shouldn't be a problem. I doubt he'll be doing much with it during winter anyways.

Haartz canvas should be the correct top material.

Probably either black or tan.

I will look for some additional info on the vacuum top system as my

47 Plym has the same thing. Fairly simple......vacuum from manifold

controlled by push/pull switch on the dash, thru two lines to rear

which connect with the vacuum cylinders. There should be connector

at the top and bottom of each cylinder. Vacuum either pulls

the plunger inside up or down.

My top raises and lowers via dual screw drives. I would think the vacumm wouldn't work all that well when driving up a hill. Is canvas preferred over vinyl?

I really dont think anyone will be putting the top up or down while driving if they value the top and related hardware.

Cows! I didn't realize they let you out of the "nut house!" :D Guess it's been a while since I checked in on Moparnuts. Never knew you were into the really old stuff.

As for the family history, this car is the reason for my sickness. If it weren't for my granddad and working on this car, I might be playing Halo and eating cheetos right now. This car has been a big part of my life for a long time and I've just reached a point where it's time to put all the other projects and toys on the back burner and get this one done.
