A lot of you know I'm a Licenced Falconer. I just wanted to share a few pics and a video of my Red-Tailed Hawk. Her name is Sakura....Japanese for "cherry blossom". She loves the old trucks around the ranch and has perched on all of 'em. The 49 Dump Truck is her favorite.

Thats really cool, I envy your patients and dedication for that. A guy in my local car club knows a falconer and had him give us a demonstration. I couldn't believe all the work it takes, rules/regulations, and patients to catch/"train" a raptor. It was interesting to learn about the raptors freedom to leave or stay at will. The guy had a red tailed hawk for years, and one day while hunting it decided it wanted to go, and it did. And of course when it came time for the demonstration, the hawk made up his mind that he would just sit on the ground and look at us, he would not focus on the falconer....too many people around.

Cool Video!

Its funny how she gravitates to the old trucks...I guess she likes the footing. I plan on taking her out for the Clements Tailgate BBQ, but with that many trucks she might flip out. lol.

It is a lot of work, but there's nothing quite like it. If she decides to go....all I can do is tip my hat and know I gave her a better chance. If my dog did that....well....that's a different story. :D

I put the 2nd picture on my screen saver. It looks GREAT. My granddaughter will LOVE it. I do hope the hawk will fly for us at the BBQ in spring.

do teh hawks have any thongs on their legs? I thought I've seen imigaes of that? I'd think that'd be bad for them if they decide to leave, from your images it seems you do not do that (which is good).

Yes they do. They're called anklets. The soft leather will eventual wear threw and fall off, but the thing of it is, the hawks are safer with them. Offering protection without damaging the legs.

Don........I know what I want for Christmas. lol
