Hey Scott, the engine has the oil pan low spot in the back instead of the front, which is typical of a car motor. The post that's sticking up in the middle of the head (between carb and dist.) is for the throttle linkage. That type isn't normally used on trucks. Trucks have a flat steel linkage tucked behind the motor. On the drivers side of the block, is a vertical stamp pad. Research that number here on the site. Also, get a wire brush and scrub the frame on the drivers just behind the front wheel. You'll find faint numbers stamped there. Will it be worth my time to use the newer electric ones, I have the newer electic wipers for a 53 truck and the arms. I converted to electric wipers, from my memory of my childhood, the vac wipers work best at a good strong RPM, not so good at idle. Quote

Are you sure about the vertical pad for the engine #? I wouldn't think they'd change the casting that much to be different between cars and trucks (and I think I've seen truck engines at Power Wagon Johns that have the horizontal pad)? Quote

I think it was more common than most think to just swap out for a car engine if it was handy. Quote

Scruffy49 Posted July 17, 2012 Report Posted July 17, 2012 Mine has had a 48 P-15 engine it it since somewhere around 1962 or 63. And I've got a 230 car engine for it. Vacuum wipers suck. My stepson's 54 Ford Squire (English 2 door wagon you can drive down a municipal sidewalk) had them. They work, kind of... unless you are at a stop sign. Quote

I got caught in a heavy downpour last week coming home from a cruise-in. You'll develop a skill for feathering the gas unconsciously if you drive with them on for a long period of time. jasonfroehlich Posted July 19, 2012 Report Posted July 19, 2012 Thanks for the info, I was wondering how good they are, I am only 26 years old so just wanting to learn something new the truck, I am doing all the work myself with the help of you guys, I am working on is a 48 dodge cab on a 53 dodge frame with 53 dodge bed so kind of a mix and match so I did not know if I needed to cut new set of holes in my cab to use the 53 elect. wipers or stay with the old vacuum wipers? Right now I am working on the cab got it soild agian as the floor boards where gone and door post, I use 53 cab as a donor because it was rolled so lots of good lower cab parts, I made the front floor panels and have the frame, engine and tranny ready to go just doing body work thought be good time for elec. wiper converison. My truck was titled under its engine number when the engine was swapped in the early 60s. Most places don't make a big deal out of it. Especially if it isn't a running vehicle. Quote
