albolton Posted June 30, 2012 Author Report Posted June 30, 2012 ya just wondering if anybody had found something awesome Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted June 30, 2012 Report Posted June 30, 2012 for show the chrome would be nice..for go...the covering of the chain with an old bicycle tube was the trick of the trade with a drain hole cut in the very bottom of the loop..no rattle..no banging of the metal tot he paint job..that is how I did mine years ago..guess a quick change set of each would be very appropriate.. TheMoose Posted July 1, 2012 Report Posted July 1, 2012 I went with the Stainless chains from Roberts. Quote
B1B Keven Posted July 1, 2012 Report Posted July 1, 2012 I bought these: Not chrome, but galvanized. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Jeep-M715-heavy-duty-galvanized-tailgate-chains-j10-j200-j300-j4000-j2000-pickup-/221058198453?hash=item3378186bb5&item=221058198453&pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr Quote
HanksB3B Posted July 1, 2012 Report Posted July 1, 2012 Other than being high quality no-rust stainless steel, what I like about Bruce Horkey's tailgate chains is that my tailgate lays dead flat and even with the surface of the wood bed when hooked up in the down position also the hooks are designed so that they never touch the finished exterior surface. Desotodav Posted July 1, 2012 Report Posted July 1, 2012 I used stainless steel chain and polished it a bit. I also used a bike tube to cover them (1 with bike tube on and 1 without for the attached photo). Desotodav Quote
Don Coatney Posted July 3, 2012 Report Posted July 3, 2012 Flopping, uncovered chains add patina. And some nestolgic sound. I would rather look at the patina and listen to the slapping chain sound than hear a rice rocket boom box trying to overpower the crappy exhaust buzz. But that is just me. To each his or her own. HanksB3B Posted July 3, 2012 Report Posted July 3, 2012 (edited) Don, Well you might convince Patina Paul and Dolly Dodge, but I'm not buying it. Without covers on the tailgate chains, how would you hear around the truck and a broad. That makes a lot of noise. Happy Summer!, Hank Edited July 4, 2012 by HanksB3B Quote
Young Ed Posted July 4, 2012 Report Posted July 4, 2012 I've been driving my truck for 5000 miles and no tailgate chain covers. Honestly I rarely hear them. Just on large bumps or if the clutch chatters a little at slow speeds. Quote

Yea like he said B FOUR B, it's kind of an insider tag, you have to know the truck model to understand it. My 1st choice was 53 B4B but for some reason Firefighter tags can only have 2 numbers total in the tag & only 6 letters overall. I also thought of PLTHSE, JOBRTD, JBRATD, etc being able to use 7 letters would have opened up a lot more ideas but as it is BFOURB was the best I could come up with. Quote
