Young Ed Posted June 14, 2012 Report Posted June 14, 2012 Looks like a decent car. Check it for overdrive! Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted June 14, 2012 Report Posted June 14, 2012 and if not OD but Hy-drive..the transmission is of a higher ratio first and second gear plus will have the 3.73 rear gear.. Quote
54Illinois Posted June 14, 2012 Report Posted June 14, 2012 I would be curious as to the condition of the bumpers, front and rear. Thanks, Keith Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted June 14, 2012 Report Posted June 14, 2012 I looked at that car last week while I was in the yard. A very good car to restore and pretty rust free. Most all the chrome was shiny. The standard very rusty Std 3 speed was in the radiator core support area standing on end. No OD cable or other signs of ever being a OD car. Engine and radiator were gone. I did not look in the trunk tough. Usually the engine block and parts end up in the trunk after a failed attempt to restore the car! Bob Quote

RobertKB Posted June 17, 2012 Report Posted June 17, 2012 That steering wheel and horn ring look decent. I would love to get hold of those. Also, the Plymouth name tag on the trunk. My guess is it is overdrive as you can see "drive" on the trunk. It would be worth your while picking that car up for parts. Not a practical restoration due to the excessive rust and the fact it is a 4-door. Don't get me wrong, I like 4-doors and my own '53 is just that but it is a good survivor with original paint. Quote

BobT-47P15 Posted June 17, 2012 Report Posted June 17, 2012 Not sure if the script on the lower right corner of the trunk is half of the word "overdrive" or not. Rather looks like it. Didn't see a pull handle in the interior shot near emergency brake handle....maybe would be to right of steering wheel. Quote

Plymouth nametag if possible. I would certainly be willing to pay your cost and shipping and maybe a finder's fee or donation to the forum. Quote
JerseyHarold Posted June 17, 2012 Report Posted June 17, 2012 Maybe the nameplate said 'HyDrive'? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted June 17, 2012 Report Posted June 17, 2012 quick look inside will tell if Hy Drive..look at the pedals..they distinctively different from stock 3 speed setup.. Quote
RobertKB Posted June 17, 2012 Report Posted June 17, 2012 Yes, I am wrong. I believe "HyDrive" is correct. Now that I think about it, I believe "Overdrive" on the '53 Plymouths had a small "d". Sorry if I got anyone's hopes up! Quote
