Jim Shepard
Well, here's the latest: a small crack in the head just under the driver-side bolt in the thermo housing. At first I thought I needed to tighten the bolt but after doing so, the crack appeared. I think this is a fairly simple fix but I'm really bummed about having to remove the head again after just having replaced a blown head gasket. It sure would have been good if these two issues had appeared at the same time. The truck gods are not kind...

Jim Shepard
Jim,Let me know if ya need another head. I'll be in Elk Grove the weekend of the 23rd. Keven, Thanks. I might need one. I have the later by-pass style with the extra bumped-out water passage. I won't be around on the 23rd, but I can have you drop it off at my son's house. We can haggle over price via PM... 48Dodger
I dont have a lot of experience with the L heads.....is this a common location for cracks??? Seems to be inline with the water neck bolt. V8 heads often crack between the valve seats....one of the first places you look at before laying down the cash at a swap meet.... if we can get an idea of places where cracks have occured....maybe we can post a poll to find the most common? I'm free this weekend Jim....I'll stop by to say helo and give you my dried up JB Weld incase you need it.....in a pinch. lol 48D

He stopped by after we went looking at the school bus. Here's what we found... Will hook-up Monday with Keven to get knew head...
Guest P15-D24
I suspect either the wrong length fastener or over torque. Just needs to be tight enough for the gasket to seal.
