pflaming
OK wise guys, I'm going to get a sway bar for my truck!!!!!
falconvan
I'm guessing the larger sway bar was to compensate for the heavier engine. Question: Are the sway bars for Chryslers the same as for Plymouths? I will need to replace my 53 Plymouth bar, so would a chrysler bar improve the handling or worsen it? Mainly they just control body roll when rounding corners. I was looking for a beefier sway bar; even the one that was on my old Ford Aspire was heavier than the factory Plymouth one. A guy over on the HAMB had figured out that the Jeep was a close fit and seemed pretty happy with it so I thought I'd give it a shot. No idea how it's going to ride yet. Scruffy49
It's against the rules to have a working fuel gauge in a Mopar... at least according to both my trucks... with a 318 you can't go more than 3 or 4 gas stations in a row anyway... well, yours is in a round car instead of a cinder block on wheels, you might could go 6 or 8 stations before you run out. Orange? Your grandson must be a fan of the General Lee... Nice car, I'm writing down a bunch of the parts you sourced since I'm hopping up my PH and it will need all the help it can get. falconvan
Glad you all like it; im hoping for some long distance cruising this spring/summer with it. I wasnt crazy about the orange idea until I saw it on the car. The eventual plan is a mild chop with shaved handles, frenched lights, shaved trim, and lots more orange! But for this summer I'd be happy with it being a solid running and driving cruiser. Well, I was really hoping for a test cruise this weekend but it looks like my slave cylinder for the clutch is bad. I've got a new one on the way; in the meantime I finished up the exhaust and got the driveshaft installed. It sounds really good; so close to driving! pflaming
Some very subtle orange pin striping might look nice, not much just little 'boutiners' or a fine line on the side somewhere. Bring it to the BBQ! Throw a mattress in and a favorite stuffed toy (an old girl friend does not count) and your set to go. EDIT: I'M SOBER!!! falconvan
That would look pretty good; i think i might look into that. BBQ? Where and when?
pflaming
April 6 in Clements, CA., near Modesto. Look up BBQ on the P-H side. Cars are welcome. I'm going to get a motel nearby after the BBQ, then drive through the gold country back to Fresno. Join me.

Not sure if im that brave or not! Lol!
falconvan
This is just not my week to get a test drive in; I got new rubber all the way around, got the clutch fixed and was ready to head down the road but it's been raining ever since and supposed to stay that way until Wednesday. Bummer; but on the other hand we could sure use the rain. So in the meantime I started cleaning up and painting hood hinges and parts so I can put the hood back on. I did pull it out of the garage; did a quick 2 or 3 second burnout, and pulled it back in so I could get a taste.
falconvan
Finally, a trip down the street accomplished!!! I need to bleed the brakes some more but it felt pretty darn good to have it move under its own power!
falconvan
After several trips down the road im really happy with how this thing came out. I gave her a good bath and except for a few tweaks here and there this is how she's going to stay for the forseeable future. Im not going to worry about uphostery for now; might takle that a bit at a time later. I think I am going to run a buffer across it and see if I can bring the paint alive a little more. I'm going to try a Corvette manual disc/disc master cylinder. Brakes are ok but no matter how much I bleed them they are still spongy and you've got to pump them. The master cylinder I have on there is from a four wheel drum setup; I just used it because I had it laying around. Also my front shocks are bottoming so I ordered some shorter ones but other than that I'm diggin it and ready to rack up some miles. It sounds great and I was suprised by how much pep the old 318 has.
Taylormade
Looks great. Since I visited you, my Wayfarer project got sidetracked. I found the first car I ever owned, a 1932 Dodge still owned by the guy I sold it to and I bought it back. The Wayfarer is on its way to a new owner in North Carolina. Thanks for all the tips and information - even though I won't be able to use them now. Looks like it will be a fun summer driving your Plymouth. littlemo
falconvan; Congratulations on your progress and success !!! Hopefully when the weather warms I can make it by and check her out firsthand !!! Cass, alias littlemo... PS.. I know I keep saying that, but this Spring I'm going to do all I can to make it happen !!!
fstfish66
I was going to have to run 3 relays (fuel pump, ignition, and cooling fan) so I pulled this from a Dakota while I was at the boneyard. This gave me all the relays with fuses and puts it all in one convienient spot. Plus just the one power supply wire off the battery prewires all of the line sides so it'll keep things tidy once I've got it all wired. using the dakota unit as a side box is a great idea
falconvan
Thanks guys; just a few more little tweaks and it's good. Cass, you're welcome anytime, buddy! Got my new MC on; 100% improvement.

pflaming
It was surprising to see how much flatter the one 53/54 windshield are to the earlier ones. That dash looks very good. Are you going to two color it?

That dash looks very good. Are you going to two color it? No, I'm just leaving it orange. Eventually the whole car will be that color but for now the old paint is decent enough to leave it for a while. I'm trying to hunt down a pair of doors for a two door to do a two door conversion before I tackle the body and paint. Maybe that'll be a good project for next winter. Right now it's time to drive it; our local shows are starting up the weekend of March 1st. Edited February 21, 2013 by falconvan
pflaming
Maybe some subtle pin striping? That orange will really make the chrome POP! I got my vert door out of Rapid City SD. A Texas yard had one also, but not cheap on that one. I'm up a bit early today, it is soo quiet, NICE time of the day to think.

Up at 4am and in bed by 9 or 10 during the week. A little later to bed on the weekends but I cant sleep past 5 or 5:30. Like you said; those early mornings are a great time of day. There's a guy on CL here that's got a nice 51 two door body with no drivetrain I'm watching. It's got a Camaro subframe and it doesn't look like too great of a transplant job. He wants $1500 but its been on there several months on and off. If he gets below $1000 I might try and bargain with him. I figure I'd just use the body parts i need and sell the rest.
