It is nearly complete so then it will be onto another boring rebuild of the chassis on a 1941 Plymouth that this engine will find it's home. It will be exciting, I promise. ol'skool Posted May 2, 2012 Author Report Posted May 2, 2012 This is what was in the car. Even had the "NUBUILT ENGINE NO. 3X828" tag riveted to the block. The engine didn't have any ridge at the top of the cylinders so it was hardly driven after it was done. It was parked because the transmission failed inside. Teeth are missing, syncro's were in pieces. The engine is date stamped 1952. Thought about the 230 but decided the 218 was suitable for what I wanted to do. Traditional hot rod!! Quote

40P10touring sedan Posted May 2, 2012 Report Posted May 2, 2012 One can take a 201 and make a 218 out of her...and one can take a 218 and make a 230...wish I could take my 201 and make a 230- nothing like the direct route if it were possible, huh. Sadly I don't know what I have till I take it apart and measure...should be a 201 but it's got an oem reman block with the rivet boss and a shread of tag{no specs} and a date code of '48....could still be a 210 or maybe a 218?! So, back to the origonal thread here...what was done to the motor, any mods? What's going to back it up in the way of a trans since it's shot? Quote

ol'skool Posted May 3, 2012 Author Report Posted May 3, 2012 Here is some more pictures of the 218. It was a stock rebuild. The cam was excellent yet. Turned the crankshaft, honed the cylinder walls was about it. The cam bearings were fine. It has new mains, rods, rings & gaskets of course. The pistons were still great to use also. Did hardened seats for exhaust valves and ground all the valves so they are good to go. I decided to do this as a good daily driver. Safety is important so I will be replacing all the glass, install 3 point seat belts, disc brakes up front with a dual reservoir master cylinder. I will start another thread when I remove the body from the frame. I won't be doing anything with the body of the car. It is original and once that is stripped, you can never go back to it. There is only a few rust spots with the worst being the trunk. I will be replacing the trunk floor as a whole. 54Illinois - I am located about 45 minutes northwest of Milwaukee The last photo is a "teaser". Old School hot rod! Quote

ol'skool Posted May 3, 2012 Author Report Posted May 3, 2012 Agree littlemo. 2 door or 4 door it doesn't matter. Most everyone wants a 2 door. Sporty, style, etc..... Doesn't matter to me. The older the better is what I say. I received this car on a barter for some work. I didn't have any problem doing it once I saw the car. It was a good trade for both of us. Another plan is to convert it to a 4 seater car so I can take the family for a ride and also friends. Right now, I am focusing on the chassis of the car. Oh, need to find a 3 speed transmission also. Not sure we have the proper one for a 41 but I believe the only difference between it and the slightly later ones is the speedo cable attachment jumps sides. Quote
