Going through my old Truck Book and discovered this much to my suprise. I wonder if any of you guys have stories to tell about how you got your truck and how much you paid for it.

Best $350 I ever spent,

Hank :)

P.S. The paint was for three gallons and the Primer was 2 gallons.

I gave 40 bucks for beat up shell, no motor or trans back in the early to mid 80's, about that much dollar wise in it at this point and have yet to drive it so much as a foot under it's own power. Your price for 3 gallons of paint matches what I paid for a quart of plain black name brand a couple years ago. That's not the most I've paid for a quart of paint. 6 years ago, paid 570 for 1 qt because that was the least expensive price I could get it for.

My great-grandfather's '48 wasn't really for sale as it had been parked by the barn for 20+ years, and eventually it was legally owned by my grandmother. I was told in junior high that I could have the truck if I could get it running again. When I finished college and drove that old Dodge to Grandma's house for the first time, she told me to get the paperwork from the county registrar's and she'd sign it over to me. We found out that for tax reasons, it was cheaper to sell it to me than to gift it to me, so we came to an agreement: I wash & wax her Diplomat, and then drive her to Dairy Queen for chicken strips and she'd sign over the paperwork as I had "purchased" the truck for $100. *WINK*

My B4B was first purchased from my hometown Dodge dealer - he sold about 1 vehicle a month (stopped selliing vehiles in the late 60's). The truck was never driven more than 100 miles from our town before I bought it.

The man I bought it from parked it around 1968, when his emphasema kept him from working any more. I tried to buy the truck and he ran me off. When he passed away, his son called my folks and asked them if I still wanted the truck. So, in 1975 I became the second owner for $100.

Since then, I have driven it from the San Antonio area to Dallas, Houston, Corpus Christi and all points around...including Luckenbach. I had to park it in 1995 after a bad experience with a machine shop and an engine overhaul that went way wrong. The good news is that I am currently in the process of refurbishing my old truck with blessing of my family and I hope to be back on the road in 2012.

I swapped a 49 Ford F-5 even for my 52 1 ton back in the mid 90's. I had it running the day I brought it home, and have been working on it since. Not a ton of money invested, but time-well that's another story. Had a lot of enjoyment and fun with this old dog. Mike

I got mine for my 21st bday. Happened to met up with 2 brothers who each had a 46-47 1/2 ton. They had just about finished streetrodding the first one when the other brother passed away. The remaining brother sold me the unfinished completely taken apart truck for enough money to buy the wood bed kit so he could finish the street rod and sell it too. Very sad. He said he couldn't even bear having them in the garage anymore.

I noticed you put the hoist rental in the cost....I often wondered when I was buying tools for a job if I should put it into the vehicle cost. I finally decided no. I bought a lot of tool specific for my 72 Charger Street Stock and have reccently used them on the 50 Dodge Truck aka "The Brick". So I now have the "Shop Budget" and the "Vehicle Budget".

Lucky "The Brick" isn't a 68 and came with a gas cap....
