New to the forum, '51 dodge BC

Hello All, I'm new from Pa I just picked up a dodge 51 business coupe. I'm in the process of making it road ready. I'm adding a dual master, and new rear springs. Next I have a running plymouth 218 with an Edmunds head , dual carbs and fenton headers and overdrive. I plan to add. I also have figure out an interior.

Sorry for the lousy pics. My next question is I live near a junk yard that has a few of Plymouths and Dodges. I found two earlier Business coupes and maybe two dozen others, I know there's a few more in there I just ran out of time. I guess my question is ; is the some Item I should be grabbing off these before they hit China? I couldn't find much I could use on my car. Most have been stripped many years ago, but there's still a lot of parts around. I do know there's a few things I want to grab. But what should I grab? What will swap over? I know the trunks on BC are unique but are they interchangeable? I'll see about posting pics up tomorrow.

Any Idea what these "boxes" are for or where they go? I cannot find any interior references.

thanks

bob

Looks like a nice project. I have some parts from my '52 wayfarer. I have converted to 5 speed, explorer rear, air bags etc. and many parts piled up in corner. I have front and rear springs with less than 200 miles. Have trans, rear end, steer box etc. Send me a pm if u need something that I may have. I am in Virginia Beach, Va.

Where is this junk yard? Someone who lives in Allentown was looking for a yard in his area that has old Mopars.

PA 18707 Englers Antique Junkyard, Sad thing is I think he;s closing in a year or two. More than half the yard was scrapped already. Mostly big stuff, but quite a few cars and trucks also. I'll try to post up some pics later today.

Found these links about Englers.

From the HAMB 3/18/2011

Update on Engler's Junk yard off I-81 in NE Penna, which has been covered here before -- I was there today, lady in the office said they will be crushing starting next month, she expects all cars to be gone within 3 years. Hundreds of 40's, 50's, 60's cars, most are beyond restoration, but you can easily kill an afternoon just walking around. Lots of cars with decent glass, stainless trim, decent bumpers, busses full of hubcaps and other parts. Closed all day Sunday, and also closed Wed and Sat afternoons. I would recommend calling first (570) 868-3990. Take I-81, Exit 159 Nuangola, head west 2-1/2 miles to 1768 Stairville Road. White garage on the left "Englers Auto Parts", stop there to sign release form and to get directions to the yard. My experience has been that the more parts you buy, the better deal he will give you.

I have seen some very large yards spread out over acres and very wooded areas with just lanes and cars between trees cleared out in just a few months when the crusher appears on the scene including the carting off of debris heaps of tires, axles, drive shafts and such..sometimes the EPA is the driving factor..other times the scrap price of metal..but once set into action..the crushing/removal goes real quick..only yard I have seen doing a slow clean up was the ones that actually realize the value of the stainless and glass etc to the old car hobby...int he absence of th EPA..they can get away with this and double their money by selling trim and still get top rate for the bulk of rotted carcasses..

googla maps shows that address as an empty woodlot across the street from a propane place.

slide up the street a bit. It's on stairville road. Wave to me as you drive by. Two other smaller places went in the last few years. and a few "farmers" fields gone. The word from the owner is he just can't make a go of it. He hates to do it but he needs to eat. Scrap iron is up.

I have seen a couple of those who "just can't seem to make a go of it" and the underlying cause in these cases were that they want preemo prices and as such run off the buying customer who could actually do better on e-bay...so instead of reaping a whirlwind by fair prices for the small hard to get items in demand, they got just bulk crush prices..bad for the industry but a fitting reward for the greedy..

Thank all for the Welcome. Now, back on topic. Here's some pics of the yard, what should I grab? What interchanges 1948 - 1952? is that correct body wise? I know they are not all mopars.

There's two business coupes there both have Ok trunks. Rotten bottom and heavy surface rust. Most interiors are trashed (animal poop and mold). I may try to get a bumper not that they are great but my PO took a grinder to mine.

that rocker trim is hard to find and pricey. head light trim rings are esy to get and there seems to be folks loking for them, parking light trim and lenses, hood ornaments, distributers, voltage regulators, trunk latch assemblies, cig lighters shift knobs, windshield wiper knobs all are worthwhile grabbing.

Clocks are always good if you happen to find one. Interesting the 42 appears to have had stainless trim and painted headlight rings and possibly front bumper. Was possibly a blackout model where they painted over what stainless/chrome they had left and the rest was painted steel trim.
