tom'sB2B Posted November 3, 2011 Report Posted November 3, 2011 When I have my driving lights on . My driver's side brake light dims when I use the brakes. The right hand one brightens while the left hand dims. What's going on? Quote
Dave72dt Posted November 4, 2011 Report Posted November 4, 2011 First thing to check is always the grounds. Do they work correctly with the driving lights off? Are the taillights correct w/o the brakes on? Do you have turn signals? Dp they work correctly,Lights on and lights off? Quote
dontknowitall Posted November 4, 2011 Report Posted November 4, 2011 Sounds to me like a earth problem. Quote
mechresto Posted November 4, 2011 Report Posted November 4, 2011 agree with the bad ground diagnosis, however I have run across bulb holders that would accept the bulb in either orientation which does the same thing...tail circuit thru bright side and brake thru dim side, made me scratch my head. Don Coatney Posted November 4, 2011 Report Posted November 4, 2011 Is your bulb indexed correctly? Sounds like it is not. Quote

HanksB3B Posted November 4, 2011 Report Posted November 4, 2011 (edited) they are hooked up in series and not parallel? Hank Edited November 5, 2011 by HanksB3B Quote
greg g Posted November 4, 2011 Report Posted November 4, 2011 Is it a dual filiment lamp? If its bright then dims, it probably in with the contacts indexec t the wrong wire. If its a single brake light only loof for a groun or resistance problem Are you still 6V? Quote
greg g Posted November 5, 2011 Report Posted November 5, 2011 one more thought. On a truck, you need to make sure you have a good ground to the frame if the lamps are mounted on the bed. I had a dim light problem on my Studebaker and a simple ground wire from the bed to the frame solved the issue. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted November 5, 2011 Report Posted November 5, 2011 Greg, Speaking of your Stude, how's it coming along. I don't recall you talking about it much lately. Merle Quote
greg g Posted November 5, 2011 Report Posted November 5, 2011 (edited) I haven't made much progress. I got dissapointed with it when the rear main seal problem appeared. But I did fabricate some side window slides/guides the other day and got the pass side glass in and operational. Yesterday, I was worrying the rear bumper installation. Its a piece of 4 inch C channel so its a bit of a bear to coax around. And I am awaiting the arrival of the new seal and oil pan gasket. I have blackmailed my brother into "assisting" with the install, as in him under the truck and me reading the manual and giving him encouragment. Once that it done, I neet to make up a lower side window track for the driver's door, install that glass. install the hood, massage the exhaust system. and plug a few unused holes in the dash and firewall. Also gotta cobble up some floor covering, work some new grease into the steering. Now that its cooler, I can attack stuff with a bit more enthusiasm. Did you make the tour east you were planning??? Merle Coggins Posted November 5, 2011 Report Posted November 5, 2011 Sounds like you're gettin' there. No, we never made the trip. Couldn't get it planned out with her work schedule. Merle Quote
