I haven't used a suicide knob since my first car. I went and bought one a few months ago. Now I remember why I haven't had one. It kept banging into my hands, so I pulled it off. Anybody want it they can have it. It's got a black knob.

Looks good, Fred! How long did it take you to install it? Manitoba, Canada hotter that Melbourne Beach, Florida. Imagine that!

Tom

Forecast revised 95 all week and sunny....beat the heat, it is like a drought here now.

My work partner, just came back from fFlorida, he enjoyed the very hot humid weather...

Because my initial spot to drill was out slightly it took longer, I must confess it was not the greatest install job, but it turned out okay, for an amateur..about 2 hours, when it should have been like1 hour..

Looks good, Fred.

Is it a 6 or 7 inch light?

There is a website for Unity spotlights.....they probably have the

6v bulbs.

6 I think, the smaller type

Fred,

Some years ago I picked up a 6v. spotlight for Pigiron but I've been slightly bashful about drilling holes in the pillar to mount it. Since I won't get Pigiron painted this year either I've taken somewhat of a GAS attitude about damaging the body and after your post remembered that I had it and decided that it should be mounted. It was originally from a late '40s Chevy pickup and the arm is nearly a foot long, as I remember (I haven't even looked at it for close to ten years) and although the arm could always be shortened I don't want to compromise the original chrome. I'll get more specific about it tomorrow after I dig it out of Pigiron's trunk but the length of the arm isn't my only question.

What has hitherto befuddled me is how you were able to conceive the multiple angles needed so that the inner handle would be out of the way of the door and steering wheel yet be handy to use while not blocking the windshield? I recall when spotlights were popular you could see over the hood with them and quite a ways to the right side but the convenient placement of the handle while meeting the other criteria is what has eluded me so far. Did it come with any clues? Maybe spotlights are like visors in that you put them where they fit but if there has ever been a serious discussion about them I'd like to hear some of it.

By the way, it looks really spiffy on your car.

(I'm learning a new OS and I love it but it sometimes takes a little thought to use, at least until I learn it, therefore there will be no pictures forthcoming soon.)

Randy, I believe the original spotlights came with a template showing

where to mount the light and drill.

I think the process was......locate the place and attach the chrome

exterior base first, then use it as a drill guide.

Fred,

Got the spotlight out of the trunk this morning and it, too, is a Unity Model H with a 4" bulb inside the bezel. It might be 5" overall but I haven't taken it that far apart yet.

If you get the opportunity I sure would appreciate a couple more pics; a close up from the outside where it goes into the pillar and one of the same from the inside. The interior picture in your post doesn't quite stretch far enough to the left for me to see it coming through and that's going to be the critical hole, I believe. Also, the "keeper" on the inside has what appears to be a hole for a locating or locking screw hole but it might also be to hold the wire. What did you use it for?

Oh boy, oh boy, a new project! I hardly ever get those anymore. I'll try to get it in place today after I finish hanging the new screen door and weed the garden and straighten the garage and.,, and... and.

Thanks for your help,

-Randy

Hey Randy will get some close up pics, but would recommed you take measurements, or even visit the Unity website, to see if they have any install instructions.

Use the outside mounting bracket to detemine the correct position, measure and check many times, to avoid problems.

Mine should have been mounted in a slighlty better position, and I will show you with close up pics.

PM your email, and will send pics tonight.....take care

When you mount the outside bezel as as the bit giude , the template wont warn you about the correct angle of the bezel/handle. Give the bezel a half turn and stick a dowel or something in the bezel and look at the angle of intrusion into the dash. My first drill job put my handle protruding partially thru the windsheild garnish. If I would have gave the the bezel a half a turn, it would have came thru the little blank area above the starter button.

This is true, and anyone doing this job, needs to be very careful.

I lucked out, but could have had it positioned slightly better, although I am still happy with the results. I did this after a 12 hour nightshift, so am a little crazy at times...

I like those lights Fred.

Well, I know how you feel about your hot days...this is pretty typical for an afternoon in the shade here for the past several weeks...several afternoons it has gone to 113-116. Old fashioned drought conditions. Grass is dead and crisp and a lot of the leaves on the trees are starting to drop, ponds are drying up, and hay is going to be a big issue around here. A lot of guys are selling off cattle already. Very reminiscent of 1980 Oklahoma heat wave, which is the hottest year on record. Far cry from that record 31 below we had back in February. Joel

In my immediate district, grass is drying up, my lawn looks like crap, and I am not going to try and water something this size.

But the hay lands and crops are doing not too bad, and a bit cooler temps and rain is on the way.

I know Manitoba has shipped hay to drought stricken regions in the past.

It was 90 today with a humidex of 100, it was already 80 at 9:00 in the morning. Tomorrow it will be around 82-84, it is very breezy here tonight, all week temps from 80-86 forecasted, so nice summer weather but not super miserable hot.

I explain to my kids, that some areas like Oklahoma, have this heat we have, but much longer and intense, they like it warm, but not this hot, espeically the sticky humid warm were having.

Hope all is well ..........Fred

My son called from Fletcher, OK last evening, he mentioned that the Oklahoma City radio station said it has been 28 days with temps over 100 degrees out there.

Suppose to be in the middle 90's here today with the heat index over 100
