Captain Neon Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 Hey Cap'n, lol, don't believe the lies! Yeah, for anyone studying alternative energies and economics the consensus is ethanol derived from corn is a bad deal. Unfortunately there's some individuals who have a vested interest in doing their best to keep the corn conversion going. I really wish that making money didn't make people support long-term (heck, even short term) bad ideas. Believe me when I say that I don't buy the hype. I worked in an ethanol plant and interned for a powerful Minnesota legislator that had a personal interest the ethanol industry. If not the first, Minnesota was an early adopter of 10% ethanol in all petrol sold within the state. Quote
Young Ed Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 In the mid 90s we got it in all the gas in the summer and within a year or two it was in it all year long. There are some stations around the state that sell gas without it for use in collector vehicles. Quote
TodFitch Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 ... By the way a 2011 Hemi charger RT showed 25 mpg over the 250 mile trip I took mostly with the cruise set at 73. I've taken quite a few highway trips this winter and it is 300 miles each way to one of the places I volunteer at. Anyway with the cruise control set at 72 this winter I averaged 45 MPG with the ethanol debased gas. Last year without ethanol I averaged 52 MPG. Same car, same driver, different fuel, about 15% decrease in mileage. Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 The answer, my friends, is methane. Quote

Don Coatney Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 "hybred vehicles"? Methinks you meant "flex-fuel vehicles". You are correct. I should have said flex-fuel. Quote
Young Ed Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 And Tim its only recently gone to 15% in some places. Most are still only 10%. So if/when we are all using 15% will the MPG drop increase again? probably Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 Ed, odd are that to bank on a decrease against an increase would be a bet better placed Quote
