White Spyder Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 As I have been reading different threads and looking at old photos and brochures I see that it appears that Wide White Wall tires were not OEM on the P15, D24 or C38 cars. For those that are looking for close to stock look what do you have on your cars? Quote
greg g Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 The post war year were pretty lean as far as materials were concerned, so WW were pretty scarce. Chysler cars featured optional white painted metal pieces that fit between the hubcap and the wheel rim and provided a WW appearence. these were also available in shiney metal to look like a full wheel cover. The after market sold plastic ones that soon yellowed and cracked just like real wide whites. Also folks used Portawalls that were white wall additions that mounted by pinching them between a partially dismounted tire and the rim. http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.allpar.com/images/dodge/1946/1946-dodge.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.allpar.com/history/plymouth/1946-1959/plymouth-2.html&usg=__WNYgzrHOmqt7rBetPeBs4BMXc1k=&h=272&w=569&sz=19&hl=en&start=69&zoom=0&tbnid=OHZksGgKzTb4-M:&tbnh=64&tbnw=134&ei=QDafTe-UB8PB0QGFgOX7BA&prev=/search%3Fq%3D1947%2BDodge%2Bwhite%2Bwall%2Binserts%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DG%26biw%3D1087%26bih%3D623%26tbm%3Disch0%2C2655&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=877&vpy=152&dur=32&hovh=64&hovw=134&tx=94&ty=42&oei=JTafTZPEMMnIgQeuyr3PDw&page=6&ndsp=15&ved=1t:429,r:9,s:69&biw=1087&bih=623 Quote
Niel Hoback Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 Greg, the OEM was a plastic disc that did turn yellow and crack apart. I remember my Dads having large pieces missing before he finally just threw them away. That was in the middle 50's. Aftermarkets are painted metal. Quote

cole18cars Posted April 8, 2011 Report Posted April 8, 2011 Love my Coker 16". Put tubes in just in case. Quote
alan32433 Posted April 9, 2011 Report Posted April 9, 2011 I bought my tires from Coker also, I bought radial BF Goodrich Silvertowns. They have a 2 3/4 inch white walls. Pretty hefty price though, seems like they were around $230 each. Quote
White Spyder Posted April 9, 2011 Author Report Posted April 9, 2011 It has WWW on it now but they are old and will need to be replaced soon. I was thinking about going with just black. Just wondering what others might be running. Quote
