Young Ed Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 Monday night went over to Marks (ggdad1951) and met up with Mark Aubuchon who was in town on business. Finally got to see Marks 51 1ton project that he is doing in incredible job on. Mark A and I gave him some advice(and probably corrupted him a little too). I got some friendly ribbing for cutting my finger with a table saw over the weekend.... Quote
ggdad1951 Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 is it spring yet? can we go search parts? Quote
Young Ed Posted March 16, 2011 Author Report Posted March 16, 2011 I looked up the snow cover map for the cabin. They show ~18in still. Not sure how accurate or current they keep that. Quote

Young Ed Posted March 16, 2011 Author Report Posted March 16, 2011 Got 4x4 in that S10? I've been there a couple times in the spring where you really needed it! The last 5miles or so in are dirt roads. Quote
ggdad1951 Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 BTW, I ordered a set of 3/32" alpha/numeric punches, should be darn close to the size needed for the data plates. Quote
JBNeal Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 I've wondered about how to fill out those data plates, and it finally dawned on me that a few practice runs would be in order. Either make a small jig to get the digits to all line up or use marked masking tape to get it in the ballpark, and practicing on some sheet material to get the feel for how hard to set the punches. I recall seeing a stamping machine way back that would line up the punches and apply equal amounts of force to each punch when making i.d. tags. I reckon using an arm rest to pivot the elbow while raising a hammer so many inches above the punches, then letting gravity let the hammer apply the blows. Quote
ggdad1951 Posted March 17, 2011 Report Posted March 17, 2011 OUCH, how'd you get a picture of Mark A and Ed w/o me in it? never even thought of a pic, and the g/f was here to snap one! oops! Quote

I plan on lots of practice before i hit the tags! I'll figure out a process and post. Quote

Young Ed Posted March 21, 2011 Author Report Posted March 21, 2011 I'm still trying to figure out how to make my 40 plymouth have the perfect aged look like your 51. Pretty soon it'll be thawed out at the cabin and I can drag that project home. Quote
ggdad1951 Posted March 21, 2011 Report Posted March 21, 2011 simple: put it in a dirt floored shed for 30 years and let the rats have fun! Quote
Young Ed Posted March 21, 2011 Author Report Posted March 21, 2011 Well the cab and chassis are outside at the cabin but the rest of the body parts are stored in my basement. But some are red some green some black some primer some??? Quote
ggdad1951 Posted March 21, 2011 Report Posted March 21, 2011 hmmmm, well then I advise stripping her donw, repainting her up pretty, driving it for 30 years and then storing in a shed for 30 more... Quote
