49 Dodge Dude Posted February 12, 2011 Report Posted February 12, 2011 Spring is just around the corner, and it will soon be time to finish what I started last Fall - my paint job. I'm not sure if I should paint my visor blue or leave it the color that it is. What do you folks think? Quote
55 Fargo Posted February 12, 2011 Report Posted February 12, 2011 What color will the roof be, I would go with whatever color is on top. The reason is it will be very contrasting with the roof 1 color and the visor another color, if both roof and visor are the same, it flows better, with more eye pleasing continuity. just my opinion. I rather like that color of blue, if it were my car the whole thing would that blue, visor included....Fred Quote
Alshere59 Posted February 12, 2011 Report Posted February 12, 2011 You forgot the rest of the car.. Quote
Don Coatney Posted February 12, 2011 Report Posted February 12, 2011 It does not matter what I (or anyone else) thinks. Do it your way as you are the only one you have to please. Quote
randroid Posted February 12, 2011 Report Posted February 12, 2011 DD, Fred correctly mentioned that leaving it white would draw attention to it and away from the car but there might be an advantage to that. It has long been my opinion that Pigiron (my '48 P-15) resembles the sort of car Daffy Duck would drive so you might consider painting eyeballs on it so nobody can say you don't keep your eyes on the road. Or, since it's got a curvature similar to an eyebrow the concept of driving down the road looking surprised might appeal to you. Lastly, if you're a Stones fan you might consider painting it red to resemble a tongue. I'm sure the possibilities are endless. -Randy Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 12, 2011 Report Posted February 12, 2011 1 more vote for roof color. Quote

55 Fargo Posted February 12, 2011 Report Posted February 12, 2011 I thought of spraying my visor a dark blue, the same color as the dash and inside trim, the car is grey, I opted for the same color, and happy I chose this scheme for my application. The visor was dark blue before I painted it, but the paint was in poor shape, but is still gave me a good idea what to expect. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted February 12, 2011 Report Posted February 12, 2011 I did not want to comment at first but tell me..which color is the car supposed to be..blue or white..at this point I think I would finish the lower body to whatever theme you had a mind then look at the visor... Quote
1940plymouth Posted February 12, 2011 Report Posted February 12, 2011 Here is a photo of my '40 with its sunvisor and my son's '51 with his sunvisor, hope this helps somewhat Quote
old stovebolt Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 roof color get my vote.... Quote
Niel Hoback Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 It ain't my car, but I like it roof color better. Quote
bobostski Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 I went with a contrasting color because I'm using a yellow-red color scheme. I call my car a Stock Rod since the car is stock exept for paint and fabric. I painted the brackets yellow so the visor kindof floats. The wheels and bumper splash aprans are also red with a red pin stripe just below the body crome strip. Quote

Uncle-Pekka Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 Here is a photo of my '40 with its sunvisor and my son's '51 ... Good taste for good looking cars seems to run in the family. Congratulations. (1940 & 41 Plymouth is a classic. ) I'll take take the risk to get my *ss kicked here and confess I've always appreciated high 1949-52 Chevrolet styling, superior to same age Mopar or ford. Problem is, 50 million flies like it too, thus chevys are over priced today. Oh, back to business: Roof color for the visor, of course... Quote
greg g Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 Question for those who have run their cars or truck with and without visor, Do they have any effect on fuel mileage??? Looks to me like they would cause a lot of extra drag. Quote
1940plymouth Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 Greg, Never paid attention to the mileage, the air does flow thru as there is a good gap between the rear of the visor and the upper part of the roof over the windshield. Uncle-Pekka, my son's '51 sat in a cow pasture for close to 20 years. It was a man that I worked with at the Prison Grandmother's. Shane paid 75 dollars for it 12 years ago. Thanks for the comments about his car, it is appreciated Quote

Sorry, guess I should have specified. I'm painting the car blue, and was planning on leaving the roof the color that it is. I think after mulling over the comments, I'll leave it the visor color the way it is. Probably would look better that way anyways. Quote
