Rodney Bullock Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 :)I don't normal do this however this morning the wife and I got up to get our bi-weekly food supply from Shoppers food warehouse. We chose the Plymouth because the truck in the other garage and it has such a big cargo area. The work I have done on the car made it start really fast this morning (20 degress) and the heater works to well:) We roll out and get to the store , when we walk in everybody has their eyes on us i thought my fly was open or something. Then a guy walks up and says " that thing started on a cold day like this? I looked at him and said 'It started in 1940 why would'nt it start today. Everybody laughed and we went on about our business. It's funny when we were finished We were picking up our food and transfering it from the cart to the trunk. There was a AAA truck outside helping a person with a dead battery or something. They were looking at us like what are they doing with that old thing. So many people think that because something is old it's useless. I tried to be kind and not say anything. The AAA guy looked and pointed. I just went around them with the old technology that keeps it simple, very simple. You got to love it Quote
austinsailor Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Back in the 60's a '40 Plymouth more door was my daily driver. Not a bad old car. The winter of 62-63 was pretty cold. I learned that it would start on it's own down to zero, below that I needed to roll it and bump start it, then it would go. I don't recall one day I didn't drive it, at least not because it wouldn't start. Quote
Young Ed Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Rodney all my coworkers thought I was crazy when I told them we were taking the 48 plymouth on our honeymoon. On that long of a trip I trust it more then my 94 dakota. At just under 200K miles that thing is getting worn out. The 48 hasn't even hit 100K yet and its got a fresh engine. Quote
Robert Horne Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 For the past 20 year, my 38 Plymouth with the 36 engine, has never failed to start, 20 or 90 degrees. I do not use ether. I put a little fresh gas in a small squirt bottle to give it a little gas if it has been sitting for a while. Quote
55 Fargo Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Good for you Rodney, sounds like a fun way to get through a shopping trip. Hey is there any snow on the ground in your area, if so, does driving the old Girl in the snow , make you nervous.......Fred Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 This reminds me of a neighbor who once asked me what I was doing out in my garage. I told him. He looked mystified and asked, "So when you're finished, what are you going to have? An old car?" I didn't bother answering. Quote
1940plymouth Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Good for you Rodney, glad that you and your wife had some quality time in the '40. No such luck up here for my wife and I now as the roads are white with salt and another major storm coming Wednesday. Please take photos next time you go out with the coupe Quote
Don Coatney Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 What did you buy at the store? Quote
55 Fargo Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 What did you buy at the store? Better ask His Wife, they seem to do all the buying at stores. Quote
greg g Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 Bob, as you are complicit in applying the NaCl to the byways in your area, you probably shouldn't be complaining about it should you?? Quote
Frank Elder Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 What did you buy at the store? Pies! Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted January 10, 2011 Author Report Posted January 10, 2011 That is so funny. We bought things you eat for dinner breakfast lunch. We always drive a old antique to the store on sunday morning. It's usually the truck (1953 Chevy) I think older cars are more reliable and if they do break you can fix it rather easy. I will take pic's the next time. Fred we don't have any snow on the ground right now however we are supposed to have some tomorrow. I am going to put the coupe in the garage tomorrow early as the street rod is going to get some real nice motor work this week. Idf I get it in the shop on time they will have it until the snoww goes away. I got one of those Thumpr Cams by comp cam. They are supposed to sound great and give more power. Hey Joe, Then I'm gonna scare some old folks:eek: Quote
michael.warshaw Posted January 10, 2011 Report Posted January 10, 2011 when my p15 is done it will be reliable, but not asa reliable as my daily driver of the time, most likely a german or japanese car within a year or 2. if i was retired, id be driving the old cars everyday, nothing like style of a old ride.
