Jerry Roberts Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 Beautiful pictures Robert. Here is a photo of the Kinzua Bridge here in Pennsylvania after a tornado took part of it down. It is now a state park. I hope to visit there this summer. Did they leave the bridge down like that for the park visitors to look at ? Quote
oldodge41 Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 Did they leave the bridge down like that for the park visitors to look at ? I have been told it is still there to see. I have never been there but it is on my short list of places to visit with the old cars. Here is info from a website on the bridge: More info on the Kinzua bridge. The Kinzua Bridge, near Kane, Pennsylvania, was the highest bridge in the world when it was first built in 1882. Its remnants today serve as a memorial of a time when the U.S. was going through the Industrial Revolution. Rust and a tornado on July 21, 2003 destroyed most of it and bridge debris litters the forest floor. The bridge was 301 feet (92 m) tall and 2,052 feet (625 m) long prior to its collapse in 2003. The bridge was originally built from iron in 1882 and was billed as the "Eighth Wonder of the World", holding the record as the tallest railroad bridge in the world for two years. In 1900 the bridge was dismantled and simultaneously rebuilt out of steel to allow it to accommodate heavier trains. It stayed in commercial service until 1959 and was sold to the Government of Pennsylvania in 1963, becoming the centerpiece of a state park. Restoration of the bridge began in 2002, but before it was finished, a tornado struck the bridge in 2003 causing a large portion of the bridge to collapse. Corroded anchor bolts holding the bridge to its foundations failed, contributing to the collapse. Quote
Young Ed Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 Rob you gotta relink all your pictures. My favorite(and only) car related gift is a book that I believe I read about on this forum "The Mystery of the Missing Classic". Excited to start reading it soon. Oops I did get 2 t-shirts with cars on them too. Quote

Oops I did get 2 t-shirts with cars on them too. Thanks for the heads-up Ed. I moved a bunch of picture in one of my photobucket albums into a new one that deals with only bridge related pictures and that likely caused the mess up. I believe I have it fixed now. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 Back to the Christmas gifts part........one of the more fun things I received was from my daughter and son in law. They're both taking guitar lessons and of course I play the bass guitar. The music store they hang out at in Kansas City received this Fender Guitar "Interstellar Cryo-Transport" box in recognition of reaching a sales goal. Dale talked the owner into selling it to him to give to me. All 3 of my basses are Fender, as well as my 1959 Fender Bassman amp. Even has a thermos bottle in the lid, just like lunch boxes of old. rockable Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 Ugh! Mother nature got back at me for the comment about my in-laws. This morning, while shoveling a little more snow out of the way, so that I could get my truck out, I slipped and fell on the ice. The entire driveway that I had so laboriously shoveled yesterday was completely clear and dry. The mound of snow that slipped off my roof and was about 2' deep was blocking my exit from the shop. Said mound had also melted some and refrozen into a skating rink like patch downgrade. As I chiseled and shoveled the mound, I took a step back and hit the rink. My feet shot out from under me in a millisecond and I hit the ground on my butt with one thought in mind, "Don't hit your head!". Nonetheless, the fall was too quick and Mr. Gravity snapped my head back and smacked the back of it on the concrete. I lay there in much pain and disorientation for a minute or so. My head hurt, my back hurt and my neck hurt. I thought about a teenager in our old neighborhood who killed himself in a skateboard accident a couple months back. He hit his head on the concrete and never recovered. I was woozy. After a while, the wooziness passed and now only my neck hurts but it's as bad as any whiplash I've ever had. It will surely hurt tomorrow. Meanwhile, I'm dosing up on Ibuprofen, or Vitamin I as I call it. The snow is beautiful but there are hazards out there. Be careful! This could have been the "shot that got me". Fortunately, it looks like I'll survive. Quote
aero3113 Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 These are my two favorite Christmas gifts. Aluminum Radiator for my 50 Plymouth Micro RC Helicopter, flies great! The dog loves to watch it Quote

rockable Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 Ahh ... winter survival 101 for you southern guys.... Walk on ice with your knees slightly bent. Why? So, you won't have as far to fall? Quote
Big_John Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 Why? So, you won't have as far to fall? Changes your center of gravity just enough to keep your feet underneath you. I wear a set of these http://www.shoechain.com/prodSnoShuz.htm when I'm out snowblowing the driveway. I'm not as young as I once was and falling hurts a lot more these days. Quote
T120 Posted December 29, 2010 Report Posted December 29, 2010 (edited) ..Not being one into showing off but I just have to share my good fortune - I was very lucky this Christmas to receive a Dodge Challenger as a gift from my wife.Winter or not I was not about to wait for Spring to take this car for a test drive.Unfortunately I didn't get too far beyond the driveway when I got the sucker stuck in the snow. On the plus side I have plenty of room in my garage for this car and it's now back inside awaiting Spring.. Edited December 29, 2010 by Ralph D25cpe Quote
