mikemaker Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 Took a ride to Normspeed's speedshop today to do some fixin' on the beater p15. Turns out that my weak starter problem was not the fault of my starter at all. It was the a bad connection to to solenoid. Fixed a couple connections and now the sound of my starter cranking is like music to my ears. Norm also let me scavenge his parts pile for some brake shoes etc. After some mild alterations, I've got some good brakes again. Much thanks Normspeed, it was great hanging out with ya today, I got alot accomplished and shed very little blood. Next time we can muck up my driveway instead of yours. Here's a couple pics. taken just outside the speedshop. Quote
Normspeed Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 I like that shot with both cars. It's going in my screen saver. Yeah, had a blast today, and sure was happy the starter problem was something simple. The brakes made up for the simple starter problem though. I wish I'd taken a photo of Mike during the brake work. It was a fight to the finish but Mike won. We developed a pretty slick method for removing those darned horseshoe clips on the brake shoes. Quote
PatS.... Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 When did you guys have time to paint the grass green??? Snow must be just off camera;) Quote
Normspeed Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 Pat, it's those crazy digital cameras. They distort the image. Note how it made me look bald on top. Quote
PatS.... Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 Pat, it's those crazy digital cameras. They distort the image. Note how it made me look bald on top. Wow...Norm, now that you mention it, I have the same problem with my camera, it always makes me look old and fat Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 Teamwork does it again!!! It's always nice to have someone around to gang up on a problem. My camera does the same sort of thing......adds about 50 pounds and makes my hair look grey. Quote
John Mulders Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 I see you have a satellite internet setup on the two cars in the background ! Great thing when you can work together on a car. John Quote
Young Ed Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 How about sharing that tip on the horse shoe clips? I hate fighting those things! Quote
greg g Posted March 18, 2007 Report Posted March 18, 2007 My camera renders me invisible, so I don't show up in thepictures taken by my camera. Safer that way for all involved..... G Quote
Normspeed Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 Ed, it's an easy one. The problem with removing these things is if you hit one prong with a screwdriver, the clip just rotates on the post and you chase it around in circles. Use a pair of medium or large needle nose pliers, preferably inexpensive ones like Harbor Freight. With the points of the jaws on the two ends of the horshoe clip, tap downwards on one of the pliers handles with a hammer, no need to really swat it, the clips are very soft metal. As soon as you've driven it down to where you can see a gap under the other end of the clip, put a screwdriver in the gap and twist, the clip will pull right off. The picture shows a dramatic reenactment of the deed. Mikemaker became really proficient at this on Saturday. John, the vehicles with the dishes are the Norm's Speed Shop Emergency Response Vehicles (ERVs). Nah, they belong to my landlady. Quote
Guest Dodge Joe Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 Looks like you replaced you visor. Where did you get it. Joe Quote

Dodgeb4ya Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 I just use a 13/16 open end wrench with a hammer to knock the C-clips off, done it that way for 30 years! Bob Quote
Normspeed Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 Mike, why didn't you think of that? Quote
Tony Cipponeri Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 Hey Norm, Why didn't you call me to help you when the Hooter Girls showed up, I never saw them there. Tony C Quote
Normspeed Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 Tony, I hear the eyesight is one of the first things to go I tried to get 'em to hang around til you got back but they got away. Quote
mikemaker Posted March 20, 2007 Author Report Posted March 20, 2007 Doh! Why did'nt I figure out the open end wrench. I feel kinda stupid right now. I guess that's what happens when I start drinking before noon. Quote
John Mulders Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 Hey Norm, Why didn't you call me to help you when the Hooter Girls showed up, I never saw them there. Tony C Tony, these girls had a major interest in the teardrop... not visible from the outside ! John Quote
Normspeed Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 John, I think it's the nesting instinct. That, and the trail of M&Ms that led into the trailer. Mike, don't feel bad, I didn't have an open end wrench that size anyhow! Quote
