razerface Posted August 31, 2010 Report Posted August 31, 2010 (edited) i greased my water pump yesterday. How often should I do this? Should grease come out the front when there is enough in there? Too much could go into the water? I did 4 pumps on a one handed grease gun, and quit. Edited August 31, 2010 by razerface Quote
Frank Elder Posted August 31, 2010 Report Posted August 31, 2010 Did you use marine grease? No you will ruin the pump if you fill it, Someone else will have to state the amount as I don't know. Quote

grey beard Posted August 31, 2010 Report Posted August 31, 2010 Just make certain you are using marine grease. Wally world -sells it. One or two pujps each time you grease the chassis, and ?Bob's your uncle." Good Luck Quote
razerface Posted August 31, 2010 Author Report Posted August 31, 2010 (edited) well,, I did NOT use marine grease. Why is that needed? besides,,, I was army,,,don't have any marine grease Edited August 31, 2010 by razerface Quote
TodFitch Posted August 31, 2010 Report Posted August 31, 2010 well,, I did NOT use marine grease. Why is that needed? It should resist being washed out by the coolant better. On the other hand, if the water pump seal is working properly then there shouldn't be any coolant seeping by to wash out the grease. Quote
Dave72dt Posted August 31, 2010 Report Posted August 31, 2010 Is marine grease water soluble so if it gets past the pump seal or if blown by too much grease, it doesn't clog passages? The other stuff I know won't mix with water. Quote
desoto1939 Posted August 31, 2010 Report Posted August 31, 2010 The marine grease is used for boat trailers to help seal the wheel bearing when the trailer are put into the water to load and unload the boats. They sell it at Walmart or any good auto supply store. Do not use regular grease as this will wash away with time. rich Hartung Quote
