kbuhagiar Posted August 17, 2010 Report Posted August 17, 2010 Hello folks, OK, here's the deal...I really like the factory instrument panel on our 47 Ply. Lots of character. But I would like to add some instrumentation, namely a tachometer and turn signal indicators. And I wouldn't mind replacing the ammeter with a voltmeter. Not sure if I can do that within the confines of the stock instrument cluster, and I wouldn't want to take a chance on ruining it. Does anyone make an aftermarket dash panel for a 47 Ply? Thanks in advance! Quote
greg g Posted August 17, 2010 Report Posted August 17, 2010 have seen a billet deal on e pay that replaces everything with either analog or digi gauges of your choice. Quote
dndrodshop Posted August 18, 2010 Report Posted August 18, 2010 It's hard to improve on the P-15 Dash. You can just barely see my left turn signals that I put under the speedo glass. Just small indicator lights (it helps if you've got an extra speedo) Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted August 18, 2010 Report Posted August 18, 2010 This dash is in a car for sale on ebay.....did you see it? says it's from a Dakota. I don't know if it is or not. steveplym Posted August 18, 2010 Report Posted August 18, 2010 That's actually a Dakota Digital dash Bob. They make digital dashes for lots of applications. It is pricey though. I added an aftermarket voltmeter and a temp gauge and put it under the dash. Below the ignition switch. My original temp gauge was no good so I had to replace it. I like the voltmeter and I still have the original ammeter so I can see both. I like what dndrodshop did with his indicators and dash. Very nice. It has been updated, but still has a retro look. hkestes41 Posted August 18, 2010 Report Posted August 18, 2010 This is what I did for my indicators Since I have changed to the dual intake and carbs I no longer need my throttle or choke cables. I removed the cables and used the bezels for my indicators. The holes in the bezels are 5mm diameter, so I just went to Radio Shack and purchased 2 5mm diameter red LED's. The LED's came with lead-wires and a resistor already attached. All I had to do was a very light sand with some emory paper to give them a very tight press fit into the bezels, attach the wires to my turn signal switch wiring and "Factory" signal indicators. kbuhagiar Posted August 18, 2010 Author Report Posted August 18, 2010 This dash is in a car for sale on ebay.....did you see it? says it's froma Dakota. I don't know if it is or not. I don't know...It would give me all of the instrumentation I'm looking for, but it just doesn't have the flair of the original instruments...maybe it looks better in person. Just seems out of place. Any other opinions on the Dakota Digital dash? Quote
Frank Blackstone Posted August 18, 2010 Report Posted August 18, 2010 I installed a full Dakota Dash with a graph tach in my 72 Poncho a few years ago. Very Sweet with a lot of features. Worth the $500. Good customer service. There is a tach on the right side of the large central display. Showing 710 RPM. I like my graph style better. I can color code it like the speedometer in our P-15. Old school showing the new technology how to do it. Frank Quote

Frank Do you know if the graphic style display (like yours) would be available for the 47 dash? The plain digital numeric displays (as in the previous picture) are too...well, plain. Quote
Frank Elder Posted August 18, 2010 Report Posted August 18, 2010 Strap a tach on the steering column? The original look is gone anyway. Quote
Frank Blackstone Posted August 19, 2010 Report Posted August 19, 2010 I built a whole dash so size was no problem. Mine is 3.8 by 8.1 in for 3 by 7 opening. I used sunken mounting to give a clean look. here is there 1-800 852 3228 number or web site www.dakotadigital.com. Have fun, Frank Quote

I may consider the Dakota Digital instrumentation if they can offer me the 'graphic' type readouts, rather than just the plain digits. Quote
