Cpt.Fred Posted July 28, 2010 Report Posted July 28, 2010 due to constant readjustment on my stubborn brake system, the threads on my push rod have taken major damage and so i cannot lock the nuts anymore... does anyone know where i can get such a rod in new or good used condition? otherwise i'd have to take it out and try to cut new threads on it. this won't help me cure my braking trouble, but at least i can secure the nuts again. greg g Posted July 28, 2010 Report Posted July 28, 2010 Can you put a sleeve or spacer on it so the lock nuts have good thread to work on?? Quote
Cpt.Fred Posted July 28, 2010 Author Report Posted July 28, 2010 greg: good idea! i have to check how much is left, but it just might work...! thanks! oldrat: hmm, i guess not. the masters are different, so i guess the push rod and pedal assembly is as well. but i don't know for sure, maybe someone who knows will chime in. Cpt.Fred Posted July 29, 2010 Author Report Posted July 29, 2010 you guys are great! i plan to remove the master cyl on saturday, afterwards i can send photos and measures! best, fred Quote
Andydodge Posted July 29, 2010 Report Posted July 29, 2010 Hi there Big Boy!!!!!!.......Er..oops.......Fred.......lol......we have to stop meeting like this.........anyway back in 1975 I replaced the brakes in my Oz 1940 Dodge sedan with discs & hanging pedals........for some reason I kept the master cylinder pushrod, nut & end clevis piece.......I have checked the pics in the 1940 & 46-54 Plymouth Service manauls I have and the pics show the same pushrod, the 1940 Plymouth Parts Manual also shows a pic of a LHD brake/clutch linkage which is the same as the rhd one I have...........anyway if you want this just let me know, it would take approx 7-10 days to get to Germany........regards, andyd Quote
Cpt.Fred Posted July 29, 2010 Author Report Posted July 29, 2010 hey andy, sounds great! "small boy" would be better anyway, because in 75 i wasn't even planned yet:rolleyes: i am tall, though, i f that helps... hehe. i'll send you a pm! thanks a lot, over and out. i am soooooooo tired today.... Cpt.Fred Posted August 9, 2010 Author Report Posted August 9, 2010 Thanks to Andy D. !!! the push rod arrived in the mail today, it's exactly the right part! now i can take another shot at my brake troubles... Quote
Andydodge Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 Fred, sent a pm just then but got to thinking, you have a 1940 Plymouth that started life in Detroit, USA, it now lives in Berlin, Germany and will soon have a brake pushrod from Sth Grafton Australia, a part, which if truth be known probably started life also in Detroit USA..........lol...........have you thought of getting your car its very own passport?.........lol........best wishes & regards from Oz, Andyd Quote
Don Coatney Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 Pictured is one for a P-15. Is it the same? I may have an extra somewhere. Quote
Cpt.Fred Posted August 9, 2010 Author Report Posted August 9, 2010 hello don almost, looks a little more slender to me. this is the one i got from andy: i hope i won't need another too soon... thanks for the offer, though! you guys are great. best, fred Quote
Andydodge Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 Thats right Don.........lol...........be the interloper, lol........that looks like the same part to me, its the sort of thing that you wouldn't expect Mopar to change too much.........andyd Quote
Don Coatney Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 Geez Andy you could have filed off the crocodile teeth marks before sending this to Fred! Quote
Young Ed Posted August 9, 2010 Report Posted August 9, 2010 Thats right Don.........lol...........be the interloper, lol........that looks like the same part to me, its the sort of thing that you wouldn't expect Mopar to change too much.........andyd Ya famous last words. I didn't have any brakes for a whole summer because mopar had a running change mid 1946 and I had a mismatched set of pedal and pushrod. Here are the two. I needed the longer one. Quote
Andydodge Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 Don, yep you're right but I thought Fred might want something to do as he seems to only have a few jobs left on the car.............lol.......andyd Quote
fstfish66 Posted August 10, 2010 Report Posted August 10, 2010 those push rods look so much like the adjustable push rod mopar performance sells,, i have one in my newer car 66 plymouth,,,if the hole on the mounting end is the same it would work im sure,,,,just my 2 cents Quote
Cpt.Fred Posted August 10, 2010 Author Report Posted August 10, 2010 Ya famous last words. [/img] there are other people changing stuff, too: when i got the rebuilt kit for my original master cyl, the piston was just a little longer than the factory one from the ouside, but the inside was bored much deeper. so you could bleed the brakes forever without getting any pressure on the pedal, because you had to readjust the pushrod to the new lenght first. the cyl was shot anyway, i had to change it against a complete reproduction from andy b. ... now it doesn't work any better. and: from the pics i really think the 2 rods are different... crocodile teeth marks or not:D Quote
