A short ride in a long car (36 Plymouth)

That would be nice I love seeing all the different gage clusters mopar comes out with.:)
Here is a better picture of the gauge cluster. The oil pressure gauge face has what looks to be greasy dirt on it. I don't see any rust inside it anywhere. Bezel and crystal look great. The gasket has fallen down inside the cluster. I am hoping it will clean up ok without messing anything up.

Hey Joel, very cool ride! I have a 1938 1.5 ton truck that has the headlights perched like that...except I dont have the head lights. I looked at the 38 1/2 ton trucks and saw the lights coming off the side of the radiator grille. I didnt look any further than that (cuz I spend more time with my 48-53 trucks) figgerin' its gonna be hard to find those headlights. I'm thinkin', after seeing your car, if the 38 1.5 ton truck didn't get those fancy pants upgraded side mount headlight in 38 cuz it was a big dumb truck. I'll have to check and see if I can find some headlights from the older models. Anywho....thanks for sharing the pictures and giving me something else to think about. lol.:D

My 37 Plymouth pickup has the stands off the shell side also. I'll keep an eye open for some headlight stands and buckets too.

It looks like it would get hard to get used to, plus I don't see as well as I once did. I am thinking that I will keep the original gauge cluster , but add a Dolphin set in the place where the panel (rusty area) in front of the steering wheel is. I have a set of them in my Ford pickup, and they are also round with similar color and finish as the 36 Plymouth, only smaller.

Just for comparison. Here are the gauges on my 35 Dodge. The speedo and gauges are separate and the speedo is huge. I have no problem reading them even though they are centered on the dash.

Here's what my 38 Dodge gauges look like. They are finally in front of the driver.

I looked at google images, and found 1936 plymouth trucks/sedans have what semm to be on my Dodge Brothers 1.5 ton truck. I have the stands that come off the fenders, but no lights. I wonder if other headlights would work on those stands?

Is yours considered a sedan?

Hey Reg, Joel

That's the one I think. I have the stands...would just have to see if the buckets would fit on them...don't see why not. (famous last words, lol)

Joel' date=' awesome that you have the car moving under its own power. I may have missed it on the original thread, but how long do you think it sat before you bought it?[/quote']

I was back over there where I got the 36 Plymouth today to some pictures of the 37 Dodge pickup (posted those pics on the Pilothouse forum) I kicked around a bit where my car had sat so long. A lot of empty Marvel Mystery Oil cans, and one half gallon Liquid Wrench can. Never seen Liquid Wrench in a bulk can like that before. Someone had been lubing the heck out of those old cars, I reckon. Probably why my car would still turn over ok .

I found some rusty, rotted pieces of an old tag just at the back of where my car had sat......just barely able to get enough of it together to tell anything, but it was an 1962 Oklahoma tag. I guess it could have fallen off the 36 Plymouth, or maybe just an old tag thrown out, but best clue I have as to the last time that car was probably tagged.
