tom'sB2B Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 I'm interested in replacing my battery cables. I'm having trouble finding the large 0 gauge cables that I have. I'm wondering if its required to have that large a cable or can I do something a little smaller. ....your thoughts:) tom Quote
Jim Shepard Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 I found mine at Napa. You might also try a tractor supply business. Quote
JBNeal Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 Tractor dealers & suppliers sell the 2/0 cable by the foot, solder lugs can be ordered too. That pre-packaged battery cable at AutoZone is 4 gauge, about half the diameter that the 6 volt system requires. Quote
lugnut123 Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 A larger cable will carry more amps which is what you want with 6 volts. Quote
greg g Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 some folks have had cables made up from commercial welder cable with lughs soldered or swedged on. Quote
Harvey Tank Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 I had A welding supply shop make mine. soldered ends. and + ground direct to the starter bolt. 6 votl system works fine. with all new rewired. Quote
JoelOkie Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 I have gotten them from http://www.robertsmotorparts.com/truck_parts.asp Also Andy Bernbaum has them @ http://www.oldmoparts.com/NAVIG.htm Also have had the local NAPA order me cables by the length and gauge, with whatever end you want on them, and gotten them within a day or so. Bradley S. Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 Blain's Farm and Fleet stores have 2/0 cable in various lenghts. The eyelet is a little big for the starter stud but the eyelet could be replaced. The three foot length of 2/0 cable with battery post clamp on one end and eylet on the other is $10 at Farm & Fleet. http://www.farmandfleet.com/ I have 1 gauge on my truck and it starts fine. Everything I have heard and read says 2/0 is what you want. As soon as my truck won't start, I will replace the 1 gauge with 2/0. If you do not have a Farm and Fleet near you or they won't ship to you, let me know and I could pick one up for you and ship. Brad Quote
Young Ed Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 Brad 1gauge is OEM. Thats what I have on both mine and they work great too. Quote
