I just purchased a 1948 dodge 1/2 ton. It seems to be missing the positive battery cable. I have a new cable to install but can't seem to find where it connects. Please help with any clues, lol. And yes I do feel silly for asking this question!!!!

It's suppose to attach to a transmission bolt. If it's long enough ,a starter bolt would be even better as it will provide a better ground for the starter.

okay so the neg. to the starter, and the pos. to ground?

No...sorry. The positive goes to ground (starter mounting bolt) and the neg. goes to the starter switch on top of the starter. Sorry for the confusion. These old trucks were + ground.

Old vehicles are the worst addiction there is. You have one and you want two. You have two and you want three..........etc. However, they are not bad for your health like smoking, drinking to excess, non-prescription drugs, and unprotected sex with someone you don't know. The only danger is your wife saying she will kill you if you drag another car home!

Robert ,

would that not be 'unprotected sex.'

Otherwise you just introduce yourself, get her/his (select proper gender) name and you would be safe. :)

I already have a 'permission' from the 'boss' to get another one (a nice old pickup truck probably).

And I have witnesses that have heard her said that !

First need to finish the P15.

Old cars are like 'rabbits'. Ya get two of them too close and you end up with a whole yard full of them.

That must be what happened in my yard. Just a few months after this photo was taken.

Just back to the topic,

fordodgeconnections if you use a new starter cable.....be warned, DO USE THE COrRECT THICKNESS.

The replacement wire should be very thick. The replacement I used is a wire they use for welding torches. The amps are VERYYYYYY high. My 1955 draws at 6 volts 500 Amps to get the starter motor running. After that 50 amps.

If you use normal modern cables you might end up with a molten cable or the engine won't start at all for not enough amps being able to run throuhg the wire.

Here's a thrick to get be allowed to buy a oldie, Get your wife to buy it. Worked for me. Only took me two years to get her to do it.

John, is this what you mean by safe sex:D:D

Hey Dutch . . . . . .

My welding torches have hoses on 'em, not thich wires! Just kidding. What bothers me when you'all talk like that is that I can understand you . . . . . .

Something I learned whilst in the trucking business years ago - battery cable gauge numbers go down to 0, then back up again, getting progressively thicker, like 2-o, 4-0, etc. Don't know what the thickest is, but I'll bet it's a doozie. Like Dutch, I got mine at Trctor Supply in the ARC welding department, sold by the foor, and pretty cheap. Had to go to NAPA for the solder-on type ends. Nobody else had 'em.

Yea i'm sort of like you in respect to having alot of cars. But my reason is that I have twin boys and both of them have cars.

My list reads like this and each of these cars run and run very well!

1.2003 Honda

2.1981 Subaru

3.1981 Honda Civic

4.1978 Oldsmobile Cutless

5.1960 Thunderbird

6.1942 Dodge

7.1978 Bluebird Wanderlodge Motor home

It easy to collect cars but sometimes it get over the top and there no time to spend on anyone of them. I'm so glad that all the above units run. Jon
