greg g Posted May 5, 2010 Report Posted May 5, 2010 Way back when we had an Afgan hound. Basically a greyhound with long hair. The wind resistace of the hair slows them down to about 37 MPH but they ca go just about all day at the rate. Very funny guy and excellent watch dog. He would sleep in the kitchen with the doors closed so as not to wake us up at 5 AM. One night at about 3:30 in the mornning, he started barking. I just yelled down stairs for him to be quiet which he did. When I went out that morning, I noticed a stain outside the kitchen window. Further investigation showed it to be blood, and the kitchen window had pry marks on it and was opened about 4 inches. The bottom of the window frame was about nose high from the outside. Apparently our dog waited patiently and quietly till the guy got the widow opened enough for him to get his muzzle out and visit some canine incisors on the would be's person, which I can only guess might have been his face. Then the dog barked to let us know he has just done his job. Not ours, but it is his great grandfather Westminster Best of show 1957 Ch Shirkhan of Grandeur. And ours was every bit his lookalike. BobT-47P15 Posted May 5, 2010 Report Posted May 5, 2010 I notice the title of this thread says "pets". Looks like several of you have (or had) nice dogs who seem to have some personality. For the last several years we've had cats. A lot less trouble than dogs when we want to travel for a couple days or a week. We trade cat sitting times with another couple who also have two felines. Our cats just had their 11th birthday.....are brother and sister but look nothing alike. I think their Mom kinda made the rounds in the neighborhood. Unlike many dogs.....these cats like the car best when it's sitting still in the garage - makes a good perch. Being a guy, Chip at least seems to like to be close to the driving position. Sister Dot seems to say the fender will do just fine, thank you. When put into their carrying cages and in the car going someplace, you'd think they were being tortured.....they don't quit yowling til arriving at the destination. Quote
Captain Neon Posted May 5, 2010 Report Posted May 5, 2010 My dearly departed Sophocles loved traveling. Once he realised that he wasn't going to the vet, he'd calm down and look out the back window or take a nap in the foot well. Gunpowder and Malibu are home bodies. Malibu insists on being outside if both Nikki and I are gone, but has enough of a practical streak to stay inside during sub zero temps. Quote
Don Coatney Posted May 5, 2010 Report Posted May 5, 2010 I once owned 2 dogs. One named Rolex and the other Timex. They were watch dogs:D Quote
