Brad Lustig Posted April 14, 2010 Report Posted April 14, 2010 Compared to this guy? http://www.studiotimecapsule.com/aluminum_fabrication Quote
martybose Posted April 14, 2010 Report Posted April 14, 2010 Wouldn't you love to know the back story on why someone wanted an aluminum version made of a very rare original Toyota? Marty Quote
David Strieb Posted April 14, 2010 Report Posted April 14, 2010 That's some fantastic fab work. I'd be more impressed if it was steel instead of aluminum. Quote
faucet47custom Posted April 14, 2010 Report Posted April 14, 2010 I agree the work is very impressive. I haven't done custom fab work like that but I used to do alot of flashing and gutter fabrication and .065 Mill Finish aluminum isn't what i would consider very structural. His work is impressive but I would have been using considerably thicker stock for that. Quote
randroid Posted April 15, 2010 Report Posted April 15, 2010 Folks, Magnificent work, although I wouldn't mind seeing the finished product. I've never done much sheet-metal work but I'd think that wit it on the original frame it would hold together well. Any idea of the weight saved by using aluminum or was that not a factor in its fabrication? -Randy Quote
randroid Posted April 15, 2010 Report Posted April 15, 2010 (Deep-down inside I'm curious as to who will ask what color it will be painted.) Quote
Flatie46 Posted April 15, 2010 Report Posted April 15, 2010 Makes me feel like cluts, me and my limited skill. Oh well, I do enjoy playin' like I know what I'm doin'. Paint, he don't need no stinkin' paint. He needs a big can of mothers mag and aluminium polish and a highspeed buffer! And some shades. Quote
randroid Posted April 15, 2010 Report Posted April 15, 2010 Flatie46, I know, and that's where I find the humor. -Randy Quote
hkestes41 Posted April 15, 2010 Report Posted April 15, 2010 Glad I didn't have to write the check to cover that job. Quote

hkestes41 Posted April 15, 2010 Report Posted April 15, 2010 How many pounds removed equals 1HP gained or saved. I remember reading somewhere that for drag racing you should consider a 0.1 second drop in ET for every 100 pounds in weight reduction. Quote
TodFitch Posted April 15, 2010 Report Posted April 15, 2010 I wonder if he'd allow visitors. That fellow is located in Lebec which is one exit different from where I exit I-5 in Frazier Park when I cross country ski on Mt. Pinos. Season is over for this year but maybe next winter.... For the POC members in the LA metro area: You can get to Lebec without getting on I-5 at all: Galvin Canyon (the old road) or the old Sierra Highway gets you to Newhall/Valencia/Saugus. Once through that bit of suburbia where I once lived you can take Lake Elizabeth Rd or the old Ridge Route up to CA138 to where the old Post Rd can get you through Gorman, over the summit, past the Frazier Park exit and on down to Lebec. Just a bit past Lebec is Ft Tejon State Park. That might make a reasonable day tour: View his shop then have a picnic at the park. Assuming, of course, that he is amenable to having visitors... Quote
